Description: Awenth rises
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 24 of Turn 7
The pulse that had been making her edgy for days was finally building.
She knew the time had to be almost upon them. Sitting in her weyr, she
found herself anxious and fidgety. Awenth had been resting, but even
her rest was restless.
Rising, Cardella went to get herself a mug of klah. She needed
something to ease the tension and it was the closest thing on hand.
Just then she felt the intensity of Awenth's mind as the green awoke.
Her thoughts full of one thing and one thing only. Cardella turned
just in time to watch the dainty green soar off the edge of their weyr
towards the Weyrbowl.
"Finally," she breathed, knowing that the tension coiling inside of
her would soon have a release. Cardella hurried to follow her green as
Awenth challenged the males of the Weyr.
}:I fly fast and far today. Who will chase me?:{ She bugled her call
as her green scales seemed to glow in the light of the setting sun.
}: I will! :{ Juth declared loudly. The young brown was yet to win a Flight
and was eager to prove himself. Of course, Awenth was all so his clutch
sibling.
Galerith and Sh'lua joined the growing ring of males around Cardella and
Awenth. Spotting his brother, Sh'lua gave M'shan a wink. The two of them
ended up to chase same greens whole the time.
Nirreth declared his intention to chase with loud buggle. Leaving his rider
to follow as best as he could, he flew to join them at the feeding grounds.
In the middle of weyrling class, Hasaarth bugled his own intent shortly
after
Nirreth's. J'darin's bronze had a bit of a competitive streak when it came
to
G'nir's bronze, probably some remnant of being Weyrleader.
}:I will catch her again.:{ And the bronze leaped up into the air and
landed near
the green and the other dragons, his eyes whirling strongly with desire.
J'darin groaned a little even though his pulse sped up and his blood started
to
burn with an echo of Hasaarth's desire.
"Class dismissed!" He called and vanished toward the circle around Cardella.
He wasn't sure he really wanted Hasaarth to win, not after so recently
mending
the fences with Devyn and taking her as a weyrmate. What would she think?
But it wouldn't matter, he knew. Soon he would forget everything but the
lovely
young greenrider.
Kadeth heard Awenth's call and answered with a confidence that might have
been
cheeky as the tiny blue settled in amongst some of the Weyr's biggest
bronzes. }: I'm as fast as any of them,:{ he said to his lifemate.
"That's what I'm worried about," groaned S'vin as he dragged his feet
over to the circle of men, not at all excited about what was about to
transpire.
Imalkyth landed with a thud in the middle of the bowl watching Awenth
with a slow swirl of lust in his eyes. He'd caught her before and
could catch her again. K'ale ran up almost out of breath with a soft
smile for Cardella though he could see she was already lost in
concentration.
Entering the room, P'nal nodded to J'darin and G'nir. Seeing how young
Cardella was, he relaxed some. The dark brownrider let Jodeth handle
it. The brown was not afraid of the bronzes and had bested them
before. The young blue he gave a snort to before watching Awenth from
where he landed.
Awenth, her light green hide glowing with her passion, hunkered down
on her haunches as she eyed the nice circle of males who had
surrounded her. Many, many males to chase after her beauty. She
trumpeted a sound of joy at knowing she had attracted so many before
she pushed off hard and fast from the ground. With a few steady beats
of her wings, she was soon in the air, heading up and out of the
Weyrbowl knowing they would follow.
She was not the largest green, but she was fast and turned many sharp
corners throughout the chase, often leaving some of the larger dragons
a wingbeat behind as they had to adjust their course. It only made her
more eager to continue to the chase. It was exhilarating and
thrilling.
At one point she almost forgot about the males behind her as she
simply savored the feeling of freedom as she flew through the air.
When the bellow of one dragon drew close, she turned her head and
realized her speed was failing her. Time would soon have her caught.
She knew. Either she chose or she let one of them catch her. Such
wonderful males to choose from? Which would be the winner of this
flight?
Awenth was fast and glowed green against the sky. Imalkyth's pecan
brown was after her almost as quickly as the blues chasing. He
cajoled her with a croon to her beauty as he wove across the sky in
pursuit.
Hasaarth was one of those a wingbeat behind, his large size making him
not quite as fast as the smaller dragons, but he was wily too, and had
been chasing more greens in the last turn or two. He caught a draft
and brought himself within a dragonlength of the beautiful green.
He gave a roar, warning off another dragon that got too close and
focused on Awenth. }:Remember how well I flew you, lovely Awenth.
Let me catch you again and show you once more:{
He didn't bank on speed. Rather he banked on size and experience. Jodeth
had known these skies much longer than some and his hide helped him to
blend in. If he could just predict what she was going to do and be there
before
she was.... Quiet, he streaked through the skies, smelling her on the wind.
Nirreth called her, admiring her, trying to win her over with flowery
words. His advantage was strenght and bronze hide, disadvantage was
lack of agility to mach her sudden movements.
Galerith, experienced winner of many green flights, choose his path
carefully. If his luck hold out, he could just suprise her. He
gathered altitude, ready to swoop down if she ever twisted to
dirrectly beneath him.
Juth, young and eager, choose to follow her faithfully. He didn't dare
to take risks Galerith was taking.
Smaller than all of them, Kadeth stayed close to Aweth's tail. He was
every bit as fast as she was. If only she would choose him.
Imalkyth veered slightly at Hassarth's roar but luckily for him Awenth
veered in the same direction at almost the same time. he was
encouraged by the coincidence and pressed his advantage.
Awenth glanced over her side and saw Imalkyth. They had flown well
together in the past. She saw Hasaarth. They, too, had had a great
Flight once. She knew her rider's preference and had just shifted in
the sky slightly towards Imalkyth, when another dragon caught her
unawares. It seemed as though he'd come from nowhere. Before she had
time to react, she was wrapped within the wings of Nirreth.
On the ground, Cardella gasped at the surprising catch, but soon found
herself caught up in the moment with her dragon.
Once again, he had been foiled. Jodeth turned and banked for the Weyr.
Maybe he was sulking, but it was only right for a brown who had worked
so hard, only to have his glory stolen by a bronze-yet again.
Galerith trumpeted his disappointment. Just as he had been ready to make his move, the bronze had outed him with sudden surge of strenght and speed. The blue turned back home while his rider found someone share the mating lust with. Galerith had no such luxury.
Juth gave a mental equivalent of "oh well, no luck" when he returned back to his ledge. He still hadn't been able to prove himself in a Flight. His rider found a pretty girl. He had better luck than the young brown.
Triuphant Nirreth enjoyed the fullfillment of the Flight while his equally jubilant rider took Cardella away to enjoy his climax.
Hasaarth roared his disapproval of Awenth's choice. He hated losing to Nirreth. It made J'darin growly on the ground with one of the women who reached for him. He shook her off, and headed toward his weyr. He would not risk his new weyrmate's trust by taking his needs anywhere but _home_.
Unlike the others, S'vin breathed a sigh of relief. The only thing worse than sleeping with a woman was to find himself in bed with one of his best mates, ever. Skirting along the edge of the circle was an older green rider. S'vin caught his eye. yes, he'd do indeed.
K'ale cried out in disappointment as the Weyrleader carried off what had almost been his prize. But soon he was being comforted by willing arms.
