Cyradis

Cyradis

Since leaving the Dining Cavern, Rhosyn had slowly made her way around
Dolphin Cove. It wasn't hard to find a quiet place to sit-probably
where they left the old Aunties sit and knit or something. Still, she
tucked herself into a chair and leaned back, taking a breath. From her
little cavern off the side of the tunnel, she watched the people come
and go before realizing she'd have to make her way back eventually.

And that was the picture Shadow brought back to Cyradis after she'd
tasked the little brown flit with finding the River Bluff Weyrwoman.

Not long after
she appeared with her small companion riding her
shoulder. "Rhosyn," she smiled. "N'vanik hustled you off so fast I
didn't get a chance to welcome you properly." She smiled and sat nest
to her in the quiet spot. "Would you like to come up to my weyr? It's
just through there." She pointed toward the opening of the Hatching
Cavern and wasn't all that far away.

"Sure." She got up slowly and followed Cyradis. It had been a long while
since she'd actually had a chance to speak to the woman and she wondered
how things were going for the Dolphin Cove Weyrleaders. She supposed it was
allright since she hadn't heard anything else, either from R'enh or N'vanik.
That was good.

Cyradis led her through the entrance to the hatching grounds and to
the easy ramp up the single level to her weyr. The children were all
out and she had a nice peaceful place for Rhosyn to relax. "Would you
like some tea?" She pointed
toward the large plush couch, "Have a
seat," as she went to call for some hot water.

"That'd be fine." Not normally a fan of hot beverages, she would
accept the tea. Taking immediate possession of the couch, she leaned
back and sighed, glad not to have to support the weight for the time
being. Her feet were beginning to resent being pregnant and wearing
boots most days.

In moments Cyradis had returned. "I use this tea when stressed," she
said. "It helps calm me down." She took a sip of her own cup. "I'm
having the visiting weyr readied for you if you want to stay the night."

"Oh that would be fine." **Thoughtful** Taking the tea, she sipped at
first. Rhosyn was quiet, unusual for her. "So have things gotten any
better since we really talked last?" She hoped so.

Cyradis nodded before she spoke. "Yes," she smiled. "I think we've
found a way to work together. Though I doubt he really believes
I'm
staying put," she chuckled. "How's the pregnancy going for you?"

"He might after a decade," she quipped readily. "That's good, though,
for both of you and the Weyr." When Cyradis mentioned the pregnancy,
Rhosyn went quiet. She wondered just how much she should say. The
reality was, there weren't many people she opened up to. Goldriders,
however, were a rare breed, and Cyradis was her equal. Frowning for a
moment, she looked down at the tea cup.

"It's normal, the healers say. For me...most women are so happy when
they get pregnant and it's a big celebration and all of that. For me..it's
just something else to deal with. I mean...I'm alone. N'vanik is
here-he visits but.. And K'sedel, he has a weyrmate and a family."

It was the first confirmation she'd gotten that Rhosyn's child could
possibly be K'deren's brother. "I know it's hard Rhosyn," she said
empathetically. She'd had a similar
experience when she'd been
carrying Kielya. "Are you hoping for a boy or girl?"

"I don't know.....I mean I suppose either would be fine. The Weyr
could use both. Although a girl with my temperaments might be hard for
Briata." She smiled at that, thinking. "I think N'vanik wants a boy,
but K'sedel probably doesn't care since he has both already."

"Well then," Cyradis smiled back. "Here's to an easy birth and healthy
child whatever it is," she said raising her teacup. "He hasn't said as
much but I think K'deren would like a boy."

"Mmm you have girls so...maybe it will be." She had a momentary
thought for her own brothers and sisters. In her family, it could go either
way. "I keep trying to think of names-the one thing I'll give the baby-and
I always come up with crazy sounding things."

"Well, I also have two boys, though they stayed in the north," she
smiled. She missed them at times and now
she couldn't even visit.
She'd begun regular notes to them sent via her brown flit Shadow.

"Well if you start with Syn you could go either male or female," she
mused. "Then perhaps you acknowledge both potential fathers. Nasynic,
or Kesyna might work." She knew Rhosyn might already have thought of
this but since they seemed to be just enjoying this time she thought
she'd throw them out. "If you like either of them of course."

She didn't really like the first one, but she didn't say it out loud.
The second one was all right. In a way, though, she really didn't want
to let K'sedel have any claim to the baby-even if it was his-because
he wasn't doing any of the work to have it. Rhosyn was feeling quite
selfish. "I don't know...I even think it might be funny to give the
kid one of those really long names that has everything. Like Rhovaniksedel or some nonsense. Then I think-poor kid."

Cyradis chuckled.
"It can be a bit of a chore trying to figure out
names but I found with mind that waiting until their born they kind of
help you decide their names. I had something completely different
picked out for Kielya, but she didn't look like a Nyiss when she was
born."

"That's true. Well I suppose we'll just see." She sipped her tea
again, enjoying the quiet and the respite. Too bad she didn't get to
talk to Cyradis more. "So, Saibra seems to like it here. She's
interesting."

"She is," smiled Cyradis. "And good for the Weyr I think. She's doing
a good job with Meledei. Poor girl had no mentor for so long it's been
hard on her."

"I imagine." Although Rhosyn had mostly forged her own way thanks to her
Weyrwoman, she understood how that wasn't always the best way to do things.
If she had had someone caring to take time with her, maybe things would have
been different. "Thanks for the tea." She didn't mean
to take up too much of
Cyradis' time. There was also the matter of wanting a nap soon.

"No problem," she smiled. "Why don't you lay down while I go check on
your room? I'll bet your exhausted. That couch is _very_ comfortable
for a nap and no one will bother you here."

She considered that, but she remembered something about sleeping in public
and the fact that K'deren also lived here. "I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll head back to the Dining Cavern." In case N'vanik came looking for her. "Then, if it's ready, I'd be glad to lay down."
