All Is Well

Writers: Chelle, Cymiri
Date Posted: 2nd February 2014

Characters: Rhosyn, Reeva
Description: Rhosyn goes to see Reeva for a checkup.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 1 of Turn 7

By now used to the ritual even though she didn't enjoy it in the least,
Rhosyn walked into the exam room and got up onto the table. At least it
wasn't cold here in River Bluff so being naked didn't bother her. Waiting
for Reeva to come in and do whatever it was that she did, the Weyrwoman
moved her toes back and forth.

"You're wiggling your toes in a moderately offensive manner, Weyrwoman."
Reeva was trying for perky but she was just tired and it showed. She didn't
like losing, and with her overnight patient she rather suspected she had.

"Well as long as it's just moderately," she quipped back, glad to see the
Master Healer. She recognized the tired look and tried not to reflect it too
much herself, though it was true the baby had woken her up once in the night.
She was also trying to get ready and lead the Wing and her Weyrfolk and it
was hard at the best of times.

Reeva was as used to the routine hum drum of prenatal checks as Rhosyn was
becoming- more so, since she had a procession of them daily. Weyrfolk could
breed well, for sure. At times like this she was glad of the reminder,
rather than merely exasperated at the boredom as she usually was.

As they ran through the usual, she asked, "Still feeling ok, Weyrwoman?
Anything bothering you or the little one?"

"The baby's more active, for sure. So...sleep's been hard sometimes. It's
also getting closer to the point where you said I wouldn't be able to fly. I need
to know if you can give me a better timeframe for that. I know it's getting harder
to mount, but I can still manage." Rhosyn was slow, though. And careful.

"Hmm..." Reeva sounded slightly distracted as she jotted down her own notes.
Given her occasional acidic commentary, it was a good thing only her and
her apprentice ever saw them. "Active in a good way or a worried way?"
At the second question, she smiled.

"I've given you the official line, Weyrwoman, and alas I have to stick to it if
pressed. Myself, though, I've never seen a woman- or a woman's dragon- put
herself in too much danger through routine tasks. It's your job, same as any
washerwoman or cook. The body's a wonderful thing, it tells you your limits well enough
if only you listen to it."

"I guess active in a normal way. I mean all of a sudden the baby gets excited and I
feel kick-kick-kick and moving around and all that until it subsides."
Sometimes it did hurt a bit but it was all in the joys of motherhood
and it told her that her baby was alive.

"Then I'd not worry. You seem in fine health, which is more than I can say
for a lot of those round here, and junior seems as robust as his mother.
The end's in sight now too. Chin up." She offered a smile, in case she'd
sounded as wiped out as she felt on the previous bit. "I've still no reason to
curtail your flights until discomfort does it for you, though that will be soon all the same. Other than that, you're good to go, unless there's anything you want to
ask?"

"Not that I can think of......" She shook her head, knowing when she did, she would write it down and follow up.

"Then you can be off, Weyrwoman. You're both in the best of health."
