Aishara

"Hey there beautiful," R'enh said as he slid his tray next to hers in
the dining hall. "I haven't seen you here lately. What have you been
doing with yourself?" He knew it was his fault of course and felt
badly for his neglect of the greenrider.

"Drills, drills, Falls, oh, and more drills," Aishara replied with a dry
tone.
She was happy to see him but was not going to let him off the hook easily.

**Ooooh cold shoulder,** he almost shivered, but not quite. "Does that
keep you from eating at your regular time?" The moment he said it he
knew it was the wrong thing to say.

"No, it think it's the sir Wingsecond who is too busy to pay
attention," Aishara's tone turned frosty.

He dropped the light tone knowing it was going to do him any good.
Turning completely serious, "I'm sorry."

"You better be. I won't sit around waiting for you forever you know.
Either we have something or we don't," Aishara replied. Her heart
ached but she was young woman who knew her own value. If they didn't
get their relationship to work, she was not going to waste away and
pine after him. "I need to _know_. Do we have any future? I love you.
If you don't feel the same way, you better tell me now."

"You really want to do this here? In the middle of the dining hall
with everyone watching?" His tone turned a little chill as well. R'enh
was not adverse to discussing what she wanted to discuss just not in
public where it would be repeated all over the Weyr.

"We can move into more private place, if you like to," Aishara said.
She wasn't sure what was happening.

He just nodded and got up leaving his tray on the table and walked out
of the dining hall toward his Weyr leaving her to follow if she would.
He couldn't explain, why her words had cracked his serenity, not
there. The normally happy and pleasant bronzerider had gone cold
inside. Aishara had no way of knowing what her words had cost him. He
took the few moments of their walk to gather his composure and to try
to banish the memories of Zoara.

Aishara followed him, frown on her face. What was wrong? His reaction
seemed bit extreme. She thought she had been extremely reasonable.

He opened his door and walked inside facing away from her until he
heard the door close. "Aishara," he said spreading his hands as he
turned around. "I've never told you about Zorenh's mother, have I." He
said it more as a statement than a question. He was pretty certain he
had her completely mystified by this point.

"I loved her," he said simply. "And she died."

"No you didn't," she answered the first comment. "Oh, I'm sorry," she
said with compassionate tone. That did explain a thing or two.

"I don't really talk about it. But its part of the reason I am the way
I am." He shrugged. Then he stepped closer to her. "I care about you
Aishara," he said and put his hands on her upper arms looking
seriously into her eyes. "More than I'm comfortable with. So, I think
we do have a future if you're willing to bear with me while we figure
it out."

"Of course I am," Aishara answered matter-of-factly. "I'm happy to
hear this isn't one-sided thing," she continued, placing her hands
against his chest. She could feel his heart beat under her palm. "I
can be very patient if I know there will be something worth waiting
for."

"It isn't at all one sided," he assured her. "And I want to figure out
how we can make this work." He knew many bronzriders that never
settled down, never stuck to one woman. He wasn't sure what he could
and couldn't do but he knew he cared about Aishara.

"I don't want to demand anything from you that you can't give me. Just
be honest to me and we can make it work," Aishara said seriously.

"I can promise that much Aishara. I'll be honest with you." He bent
his head to capture her lips. She was warm and tender, and he still
didn't know how she'd wormed her way into his heart but there she was.
When he pulled back he put a finger under her chin. "If you ask me a
question, I'll tell you the answer. I promise."

"Good. I won't be _too_ curious," Aishara said with humorous smile.

He smiled and gathered her closer again. He wasn't sure he could let
himself love again in the way he had with Zoara but he knew he cared
very deeply about her. He couldn't bring himself to use the 'L' word
yet but maybe that would come in time. He didn't use it as a tool to
get what they wanted from a woman like some men did. That word was
important and when he finally said it, it would be because he meant it
from the bottom of his heart.

"Come on," he said taking her hand. "I think we still need to eat
dinner. Then we can come back here if you want." Of course he wanted
to bed her right now, but he didn't want that to confuse what they'd
just said to one another.

"Yes, good idea," Aishara agreed.

"Alright," he said and picked up her hand to kiss it and lead her back
to the dining hall.
