Description: L'pin transfers back to the weyrling staff
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 15 of Turn 7
L'pin's hands twisted around themselves as he made up his mind to talk
to the Weyrleader. **Chaneth, could you ask if N'vanik is free?**
}:Loseth?:{ the blue asked. }:Can my rider meet with yours to discuss
something important?:{
}:He will meet with you,:{ Loseth said after getting a response from his rider.
L'pin straightened his clothes and made sure he was presentable before
walking down to the office. He tapped politely on the door.
"Weyrleader?"
"Come in," N'vanik called. "Have a seat."
"I hope you and Loseth are well," the bluerider said as he settled
into the chair, wondering how best to phrase his request.
"I'd like to ask for a wing transfer," he settled on.
N'vanik arched an eyebrow. "Which Wing would you like to transfer to?
Or do you just want out of your current one?"
"Ideally, back to the Tsunami to work with the weyrlings again," he said.
"Are you sure you're ready for that?" N'vanik asked gently.
With the second anniversary looming over him, he wondered about it.
"It was the right call for me to take time off and fly against Thread,
and I think I would have cracked my shell if I'd stayed in the job
then. But I miss working with the weyrlings. I'd be willing to be
staff assistant for a few months if you wanted to make sure." Of
course it was important to make sure their welfare came first.
N'vanik tapped a finger on his desk. "The weyrlingstaff can always use
another rider with experience." Now that they had another breeding
gold, that meant more weyrlings and they were short a Weyrlingmaster
Third. He didn't want L'pin to take on too much right away, though. "I
think you should ease back in."
"I can do that." He appreciated the Weyrleader being willing to give
him a chance. "It'll do me some good to remember how to talk to little
ones," he joked.
"And remember how to wake up in the middle of the night when one of
them needs you," N'vanik teased.
"Ah, yes, young weyrling wails of distress. That part's the one I miss."
N'vanik smiled before turning serious. "How have you been?"
"Better. I find I've actually enjoyed flying Fall actively, it's made
Chaneth and I sharper. And the extra free time for my craft hasn't
hurt anything, though I'll miss the Hall. And it seems to have finally
stabilized around here."
"Faranth's Egg, I hope it stays that way." It had been a long, hard
road. "How soon would you like join the weyrling staff?"
"I don't want to put out the wing too much, so what about the
beginning of month 6?"
The Weyrleader nodded. "That sounds good. I'll check with Sh'del and
D'naz and see if they agree." He wanted to make sure they were
included in the decision. If everything worked well, L'pin might be
promoted to 'Third before long.
"Understood." He didn't want to waste anyone's time if it proved he
couldn't handle it. "Should I keep flying Fall on those days and deal
with weyrlings the rest?"
N'vanik considered the idea. "I think you should be on weyrlingstaff
full time. I want your focus to be on them." Even if the Wings could
use the extra help.
"Understood. I'll report to the Weyrlingmasters tomorrow."
"Good luck, L'pin."
