Sighing, Rhosyn looked down at her belly. She was as big as a Hold.
Her feet were swollen and hurt and she was beginning to think this
baby didn't want to come out. She tried telling it to, but it didn't
listen. Relaxing as much as she could while still fulfilling her
duties when she could, she was ready. And still-nothing. So when she
ate her breakfast in her weyr that morning and things started to hurt,
she became hopeful.
All that talking to Reeva confirmed that pains alone didn't mean it
was time though. They had to get worse and become continuous. They
also needed to be followed by her water breaking. Something else that
Reeva had told her came into her thoughts just then. **I wonder if
N'vanik would come over here and maybe just poke me if this baby would
come out now. This is ridiculous.** He was busy though and she knew
that. So she finished her breakfast and then went to her office-albeitslowly.

A while later, without the pains letting up, Rhosyn had managed her
hidework for the day. Sighing, she decided maybe it was time to let
Reeva know that she was hurting. Getting up and walking down through
the tunnels towards the Infirmary, she made it there. And then she
waited for someone to get Reeva. "Hey Master, I'm hoping we may
finally have us a baby." Once the woman confirmed what she thought,
she'd tell everyone else. She hated to be the girl that got everyone
riled up over nothing.
Reeva's eyebrow arched at the perky sentiment. "*We* certainly are
not. I've all the little monsters one woman can handle. You, on the
other hand, most certainly are. I would cancel your plans for the day,
m'Lady."
"Is that a for sure? I don't want to tell everyone and then it be a
false alarm." She frowned and got herself up onto the bed. Pretty soon
she'd have to get a gown on. **Maybe not. The baby will be naked so
why can't I?** Her hair was pulled back, which was a good thing but
she was slightly flushed from all that walking.
"It is indeed a 'for sure'. Is there someone I can send to grab some
things to make you feel comfortable?" If Rhosyn had heeded Reeva's
previous advice, she'd have put a little bag aside, but she was never
sure if the flighty Weyrwoman would take her seriously on things like
that. She flashed a smile. "The infirmary welcomes you, Weyrwoman."
And with that confirmation, she decided to tell the people who needed
to know. The rest would soon enough. }:Mine is having the baby now:{
Loseth, Mnoranth, Nikornath, Tabanirth, Vilarth, Rilarth, and Augashyth would
know. Briata would hear it so that was no problem. Rhosyn knew that
someone would tell Solieira sooner or later-maybe Lenala would.
Sighing, she got as comfortable as she could. "Ahh..the headwoman can
get them when she has time." She wanted no one else going through her
things-going into her personal space except for maybe Lenala, but she
was likely busy.
Sol did eventually get the message though it took a little time. But
word, as always, traveled fast in a Weyr.
Having been present for many births over the turns, she was unruffled,
even though it was a Senior Weyrwoman giving birth. She had full
confidence in the Healers and in Rhosyn too.
Knowing Rhosyn had candlemarks, probably, she went to the Weyrwoman's
weyr, and began to pack a few very important things. She knew exactly
what to pack, though not exactly where it all might be. It took a
little while, but not so long. And soon, she tucked the bag over her
shoulder and headed toward the Infirmary.
She stepped into the Infirmary and found a journeywoman to ask where
Rhosyn was and headed toward that area, bag in hand. She peeked into
the room and then eased into view, setting the bag down with a smile
to the Weyrwoman.
News did travel quickly in the Weyr, especially once dragons caught
wind of the news. Briata gathered Brigel along with a couple of toys,
the fabric she used to wrap him in, then made her way to the infirmary
with quick, decisive steps.
**Aughashyth, will you let Y'gel know I am on my way to the infirmary?**
}:Mine? She who hears wants you to know Orlaith's egg comes and she
goes to wait with her.:{
Y'gel bit his lips and hunched over the tear he was repairing in a
weyrling's torn wingsail. **I'll be there as soon as I can.**
N'vanik's heart rate jumped when Loseth passed along the news. He
almost fell off the couch. With a deep breath, he reminded himself
that babies generally didn't pop out in minutes. It took candlemarks,
so he had plenty of time to put on Loseth's straps and send word that
he was leaving for River Bluff. Shards, it was really happening!
Lenala paused her work and chewed nervously her lips when Vilarth relayed
her the message of Rhosyn's birth having started. She worried about Rhosyn.
Women did die in childbirth. If something happened to her...the Weyr would
be her responsibility and she didn't feel ready for it, not even with Tsaera's
help. Besides, Rhosyn was a friend. She gazed at Vilarth, who brooded over her
eggs. Yes, she did care about Rhosyn, as a friend. She forced her attention back
to the hides on her knee. There was nothing she could do, except wait and hope
for the best. Concentrating was hard though, and her thoughts kept turning to the
birth.
"Ahhh thanks Sol. Orlaith has told who I wanted her to but there are likely others
I haven't thought of. This might take awhile though so no rush on anything. Just
so everyone knows where I am if they try to find me or need anything."She was at ease
so far. This wasn't the hard part. This was the waiting part. "And please, when
the Dolphin Cove contingent gets in-can you make them comfortable?" Sheknew Sol knew
who she meant.
Sol nodded. "Of course. Just relax and don't worry about anyone but the little one.
Lenala will handle things...and I'll help her. Would you like me to stay for a bit?"
"It's going to take forever, so they say. You have things to do. No, go ahead and
go on. Apparently all I have to do is lie here for awhile anyway." She smiled, liking
the sound of that. Rhosyn was trying not to think of the fear. The dangerous part
wouldn't happen for awhile yet. This was easy. "Thank you. I'll see you later and
hopefully with a healthy baby to show for it."
