Dumbstruck (Impression Post!)

Description: Genna is stupefied as she meets her lifemate Lissath.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 7

Genna

The humming, the humming! Genna could hardly believe it, but as it grew
louder and people around her began to react, she could no longer deny it.
The eggs were finally hatching! They had been drilled on what to do, of
course, and it wasn't before long that all the candidates had put on their
white robes and sandals and were marching into the Hatching Cavern in neat
lines. Genna just shuffled along with them, heart pounding in her chest.
She tried to catch a glimpse of the crowd, wondering where her friends
were, if her uncle had made it to see, but the crowd was far to vast to
recognize any faces. And there were more important things to watch.

Oh how different this was from the last hatching -the first- she had seen.
Back then she had been up in the stands with her uncle. Even then she had
watched every rocking egg with enchantment. But now every crack that
appeared held a much deeper meaning to her. Was that a green hide she saw
behind the widening crack? No, a blue and the dragonet found his Lifemate
not far from her.

Wait, was that Helcoger impressing a brown? Good for him! Genna smiled as
the pair moved off the sands. Things happened so fast after that and Genna
hardly had time to think as events unfolded. One by one, the hatchlings
found their lifemates. Every time a young green cracked her shell, Genna
would hold her breath and watch her until she had found her lifemate. The
gold egg was at her back and every so often she would glance over her
shoulder nervously, to see if she'd made her move yet. When she finally
did, Genna hesitated. Should she move closer? What if her green hatched
somewhere else and she wasn't paying attention? But this was the gold, how
could she not pay attention to her?

As an orange-tinged golden head fought its way out of the shell, Genna
shuffled closer, watching the young queen with awe. Apparently unaffected
by the hustle and bustle around her, the hatchling gold observed the girls
gathered before her. The moment their eyes met it was as if a deafening
bang blasted away all other senses. Lissath. Genna stepped forward, dazed,
to meet with her Lifemate. Lissath. Her lifemate? Lissath.

}: Don't question it. :{ a young but authoritative voice rang clear in her
mind. }: I chose you, because you were the right one for me and so it
should be. :{ The young gold sat back on her haunches, a little cautiously
as there was still egg-goo dripping everywhere. For a moment she just sat
there and observed the dumbstruck candidate, now weyrling.

"Okay.." Genna whispered softly. It was all too much, way too much to
fathom and Genna's limbs luckily seemed to move automatically as her mind
gently felt around Lissath's for the first time and vice versa. When she
reached the young gold, she dropped to her knees to level with her, looking
at the little queen with eyes big of wonder.

She should think what she wanted to say in her mind, right? **You're so
beautiful.**

All that got was a snort from Lissath. }: I know, I'm a gold. :{

For a moment it seemed like staring competition between the two, not a word
was said as each tried the feel of the other's presence in their mind.

**Aren't you hungry**

}: Isn't there food right around the corner? :{

**Yes, don't you want to go there?**

}: In a moment. I'm dripping wet as you can see. :{

Lissath opened her wings clumsily and wafted them around a bit, egg goo
spattering all around, most of it on Genna. Her jaw dropped. So this is
what they meant with a gold's strong personality? She thought young dragons
were supposed to be all food-food, but this one wasn't. Also, she was cocky.

}: Oh my, you're wet. :{ Lissath stated with a slight mental chuckle as she
finally moved. }: You should change once you're done feeding and bathing
me.:{

And thus the very first steps of their journey begun, Lissath waddling in
the lead, Genna dumbstruck behind her.
