Description: Corofel and Rohagelen happen to meet and looks like new
friendship is forming. Watch out, these two mean trouble.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 6, day 2 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Benani, Lord Zathris
Corofel knew he shouldn't be there, not with everything that's going on
with Lady Benani's missing. He was supposed to stay indoors, under
watchful eyes of the hold's ladies. Not wandering out alone, especially
this far. He was Lord's Heir, someone could kidnap him. But he had gotten
bored, not to mention the atmosphere inside the hold was suffocating...all
that nervousness, fear and worry.
At some point he had crossed the unspecified border to Vintner hall's area.
It was the grapevines that told it for him. Rows and rows of vines put to
rest for the winter.
The junior apprentice had the unlucky duty of making sure the vines were
taken care of during the harsh weather. Rohagelen was walking the rows when
he heard something. Moving slowly after reports of foul play, he came up on
the other boy. Confused, he walked more slowly. "Oh hi. Do I know you?"
"Probably not. Hi, I'm Corofel," the boy grinned with the amiable, charming
grin he had gotten from his father.
"Oh. I'm Rohagelen." The junior apprentice wasn't as worldly as some and
the farmboy in him didn't know the boy's name and what it meant. He had
been from another Hold somewhere else. "I'm an apprentice here."
"I've from there," he pointed towards Amber Hill's main buildings
direction. "I'm fostering in Lord Zathris' family. What are you doing?"
"You're the Lord's fosterling? Wow. I met him one time." Rohagelen was
momentarily stunned. He didn't know what to say to that. It didn't occur to
him that Corofel might be ranked too. "See ummm when the weather's bad, we
still have to watch the vines so they don't die completely and they will
bloom again."
"I meet Lord Holders all the time 'cause my dad is one," Corofel boasted.
"Gosh, that sounds boring. What do you do for fun around here?"
His jaw almost dropped. "Your dad is a Lord Holder? Wait...Zathris' kids
are little...." He was trying to put things together but sadly, in this
bit, his education was lacking. He made a note to fix that as soon as
possible. "Umm..we go to the Hold. And we play cards sometimes.
And...really there's not much to do. Cept maybe sneak some of the wine
castoffs. Some of em are bad though. Really bad..."
"Man, apprentice life sound lame," Corofel shook his head, ignoring
Rohagelen's awe. "Don't you ever do fun pranks?"
At the present time, he was actually the butt of pranks, but he didn't tell
Corofel that. He sensed if he could make friends with this person, then he
might be making friends with someone who could have power. And maybe they
would leave him alone if he had a friend that was the son of a Lord Holder.
"Umm sometimes. And yes, it can be lame. That's why we all want to be
journeymen so we can travel and do whatever we want."
"But you have to be grown up before they make you journeyman," Corofel
pointed out and plugged a leaf out of a vine. "And that takes forever," he
continued.
"Not really forever. A long time for me maybe since I'm the youngest but
maybe if I work hard.. Anyways, I do get to learn some neat stuff. Plus if
we behave, we get to go to some of the gathers to run the stalls and help
out." He wasn't far enough along, but it was something to look forward to.
"How long have you been here?"
"A Turn or so," Corofel shrugged. "Hey, wanna see where trundlebugs spend
the winter? They are hibernating now, so it's safe. And if you want to put
one into someone's bed...well, they wake up in warm indoors," Corofel's
grin was slightly wicked.
"Hmmm...yeah...I'm sposed to be on duty for another few moments though
since I have to finish the last row. Can I meet you?" Rohagelen did not
want to screw up this early in his career, Lord Holder's son or not.
"Sure," Corofel agreed. "Know those two big rocks at the edge of the
fields? That kind of leans together? I can meet there later," he suggested.

"Hey? Corofel?" he said as he walked up. He was wearing his coat but his
boots crunched on the ground to herald his arrival. Rohagelen had gotten
hold of some castoffs from the liquor trove just in case.
"Hi, Rohagelen. Geez, your name is mouthful, do you have nickname?" Corofel
greeted, coming out from the rock's shadow.
"Umm...Ro is okay." He wasn't about to say that his mother called him
Gelly. That was just undignified.
"Okay, Ro. Some people call me Cors. What ya wanna do?"
"Well I got some drink if you want some. Otherwise, have you ever been to
the tavern?" He didn't go there often since he was so young, but they did
have food there. It was also good to listen to the music. And sometimes,
there were girls.
Corofel's eyes lit up. "They don't let me into Tavern."
"Why not?" This was getting more and more interesting by the minute.
Rohagelen wondered why since Corofel was obviously even older than he was.
And if he was a Lord Holder's son surely they couldn't keep him out.
"Too risky. They are supposed to be vile nests of vices and debauchery,"
Corofel replied. He wasn't sure what debauchery was exactly but based on
things he had overheard when he wasn't supposed to hear it, it was
something his father did.
"They are not. They just have drink and music. Puwul doesn't allow
debauchery." At least he didn't think so.
"All right!" Corofel sounded excited.
"You got a hood or something?" They couldn't just walk in like they owned
the place. The apprentice wasn't stupid.
"I have a wool cap," Corofel replied and pulled the thing out of his pocket.
"Alright put it on and let's go." He smiled and hurried along through the
tracks to the tavern. Corofel pulled the cap on, hiding his strawberry-blond
hair and followed his new found friend.
