Sarban had actually been in the necessary just then but the man managed to
finish up and get his drawers together before going to Corowal?s office.
Concerned since it seemed like an emergency, he came inside without
knocking. ?What?s happened??

"There's apparent murder in Green Valley, or at least kidnapping. Here,
read this," Corowal replied and handed him the letter Coran had received.
He didn't scold his Steward for missing the meeting.

"What?" Taking the letter, he read over it quickly, the look on his face
getting more concerned by the minute.
**Why do these things have to keep happening? First holdless criminals, now
a minor holder gone missing. Zandan is going to have to start hiring more
men for regular patrols or something** "So no body has been found. Or has
there even been a search for one? Until we find a body, we treat it as a
disappearance, kidnapping or no. Zandan's going down there of course....how
is their security? Perhaps Lady Arippa may need to come stay with Lady
Felyna."

"I don't know about their security. Zandan is questioning the messenger and
Reven's brother as we speak," Corowal replied. He leaned backwards. "I'm
sending Zandan and some of his best men there."

"Well at least that Dolphin Cove woman is there. She seemed rather capable
to tell the truth." Sarban was mulling it all over. "Perhaps Lady Felyna
should send Arippa an invitation? As far as the rest...who would have real
reason to do something with Reven besides the brother? Is there anyone else
that would be in line to inherit?" He didn't know of that line offhand, but
he could ask the harper.

"We can suggested that to Felyna. As for the next in line..the brother. I
can't name out anybody else without digging into the archives. That
particular family tree has lost most of it's branches," Corowal answered.
"Shards, if worst came to be, I'll be considering asking _Lady Arippa's_
male relatives to take over the hold."

"Okay. Step one is to send Zandan to find out anything and everything and
to set up security. Step 2 is to let Felyna figure out Lady Arippa. Step
three is get the harper looking into the archives in case though apparently
Lady Arippa has plenty of
male relatives anyway." Sarban shook his head and wiped his face. "You
know, for them to take an Emerald Falls minor holder whoever they are, that
says they don't respect you and your authority or your ability to keep your
people safe. Directly or indirectly, this is also a slap in your face,
Corowal." He had to think back to all the trouble they had with the boy.
When people found out he had escaped and still lived at the Weyr...they
were going to be in deep trouble.

"I know," Corowal looked grim. "Zandan is going to increase security around
here," he continued. "I want those culprits caught and punished," his eyes
turned into narrow, predatory slits.

"One thing I might try....don't know if it's worth it though. If the Weyr
sent any sweeprides in the area when he was missing... maybe they saw
someone travelling." Sarban knew that dragon eyes were better than anything
else. It was worth a shot.

"It's worth giving a try," Corowal nodded in agreement. "And they don't
necessarily care about borders, so alert the other minor holds, at least
those that have a holder." There was still way too many abandoned holds in
Emerald Falls. "The more eyes we have looking for them, the more likely
someone has seen something."

"Will do. I'll send you a report. I trust Zandan has a secure way to send
us back information?" He didn't want anything broadcasted over the drums
and certainly didn't want any messages intercepted. Perhaps they could
revert to code.

"Zandan and I developed several secret ways to comminicate when we were
mischievous kids. All those pranks we pulled," Corowal replied. "It will
come handy now."

"Very well. I'll get started contacting everyone. Perhaps you let Lady
Felyna know about Arippa and work on a contingency plan if the brother
won't hold or if it is the brother though it would have to be working with
someone since he was here." Sarban shrugged,
knowing he'd have to wait for Zandan's findings to speculate.

"I will talk with her," Corowal promised. "You be careful out there too.
You might not be directly Blood but you're my relative," he warned,
honestly concerned of his cousins safety.

He smiled to himself. Sarban might have been a steward for a few turns, but
before that he had been a sailor. He could handle himself. "Not me. Check
on Corofel. Make sure that Arippa's relatives up there know to be watching.
And the others here."

"I will," Corowal wasn't going to ignore his son and Heir. His safety was
high priority to him too.
