Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 7 of Turn 7
}: Onnyth? My Genna wants to know if Yours could come by for a chat.:{ The
young gold paused for a moment as she had a quick but vehement argument
with her rider, then she added reluctantly. }:She says it's nothing
important, so there is no rush. :{
The reply came swiftly. }:Tell your rider that she will come by when you
have free time.:{
Lissath relayed the message, a bit offended that Onnyth's rider didn't drop
everything to come by right away. But it was soon forgotten as the pair
continued in their daily routine.
It was only later that night that the young gold remembered. }: Hmm, this is
our free time, yes? :{ she hinted at her rider as Genna flopped down in a
chair with a relieved sigh.
It might have been a few turns since she was a weyrling herself, but Teseada
knew the schedule. "Genna, is now a good time?," she called out, as she
entered the barracks.
"Oh, yes, certainly!" Genna called back, moving up from her seat again to
greet Teseada. She couldn't help but look over her shoulder at Lissath in a
way that clearly said **I told you so.**
"What can I do for you?"
"I just wanted to talk for a bit and say thank you," Genna said, feeling a
little silly all of a sudden. "For talking to me before the hatching. It
saved me from a lot of questions and worries the past couple of days."
"Not a problem," came the response. "If only someone had been able to do
the same for me, but maybe one day, you'll be able to help another girl out
in the same way."
"I hope so," Genna smiled. "Though I also hope that is still ages away. I
have so much to learn! I just hope I won't make too horrid mistakes."
"Making mistakes is how you'll learn. Or at least it's how we learned."
Teseada smiled. "And don't be afraid to ask questions. Because chances are
someone else wants to ask it and is afraid of looking silly. The only silly
question is the one you don't ask. It took me a while to get that."
"I'll try and remember that," Genna replied with a nod. "Also, I was
wondering, did Onnyth ever bully fellow weyrlings around? Lissath can be a
bit direct, I could use some tips on when and how to reign her in."
"She tried," Teseada grinned. "You need to point out that you're the boss, I
can have Onnyth talk to her if you'd like."
"That would be interesting," Genna smiled. It would be good to know there
was someone who could rein Lissath in when she failed to.
"Try telling her she has to learn how to lead before she can be the boss.
That might calm her down a little if you repeat it often enough."
"Oh yes," Genna considered it for a moment. "Though that will make her want
to start learning right away! Can I refer her to Onnyth?" she laughed.
"You can," Teseada said with an answering chuckle. "I'm suire she'll be
willing to help."
"That's a relief," Genna nodded. "I hope Lissath will grow up to be as
grounded as her mother."
"She wasn't always that way, she was a bit of a brat at first herself."
"That is strangely reasasuring," Genna laughed. "We will be fine with all of
you looking over our shoulders."
"I'm sure she'll do us all proud."
"Yeah, me too," Genna felt greatly relieved, knowing that Lissath was just
being a typical gold. That meant she could grow up into a reliable gold like
Onnyth. And it was like Lissath had said, she'd chosen her because she could
do this, she could help her get there.
"By the way, I'm a bit curious, when do my separate lessons start?"
"Not until you two are in the fourth month of training. Either myself or the
Weyrwoman will take you through what you need to know, and a few things you
didn't realise you needed to know as well," Teseada said with a chuckle.
"Wonderful," Genna was glad to have a bit of a timeframe on that. "Well, you
certainly reassured me once again."
"That's what us goldriders are here for. We need to help each other through
the pass." Teseada's tone was a little more serious than it had been.
"People will look to you, and when you need that support, well, sometimes
only another goldrider will be able to provide it.
"I'm glad you've got my back," Genna smiled. "I hope one day I can return
the favor."
"I'm sure you will, if not for me, then for another who needs it."
