Description: N'vanik comes to get the baby and U'das babysits the Weyrwoman.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 22 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Eirlira, K'sedel, H'vack
The Hatching was over and everything had gone well. Rhosyn was a bit
surprised that Eirlira had Impressed a green. Hopefully,
H'vack could sort that one out. Once the Stands had emptied some, she
smiled to herself and got up, carrying Nisheyl in her arms.
She was quite hungry and would have to observe the pleasantries with
folks. Wondering how she was going to eat and hold the baby
at the same time, her eyes searched the crowd. Perhaps she could even
have a dance later after the little one went to bed.
"Hey there," N'vanik said, smiling at Rhosyn. His gaze soon dropped
to the baby. "How's my little Nisha?" He brushed a finger against the
baby's cheek.
"Oh she's in fine fettle. Loved the noise and everything from the Hatching
of course." And it had given Rhosyn an excuse to dress her up. The little
baby was in a gown and bonnet, though they weren't very thick due to the heat.
Glad that the little one hadn't fussed, she watched as the baby stared
at N'vanik with hazel eyes a bit like his and a bit like hers or perhaps a
bit like K'sedel's.
"Her very first Hatching. It'll be some Turns before you're down on the
Sands yourself," he told the baby. "I'll bet you'll be a fine rider,
just like your parents." He knew she couldn't understand a thing he
said, but he liked talking to her.
"Here...if you want to hold her, I can manage to get a plate." She had just
been fed so Rhosyn didn't have to worry about that chore for a bit. There was
also the matter of this being the chance for other Weyrleaders and folk to see the
baby for the first time. She didn't mind letting N'vanik make that introduction while
she had the rare chance to eat.
U'das walked over to them. "Greetings to you, Rhosyn, N'vanik, Nisha."
Both girls received a warm smile from him and N'vanik a respectful nod.
"Hi, U'das." N'vanik was still nervous about holding the tiny baby and took
her gently. "I'll make the rounds and see you later." He leaned down to
kiss Rhosyn's cheek. Then he turned and headed into the crowd, much
more willing than usual to chat with visiting holders. He was eager to
show off Nisha.
"Well met U'das." Rhosyn smiled, glad to still have at least one bronzerider
by her side as N'vanik went to show the baby off. "Are you hungry?" She was.
"I am a male, I'm always hungry," U'das grinned and offered her his arm to
escort her to buffet table. "So, how have you settled in to motherhood?"
"It's mainly just feeding, changing, and all of that which isn't so hard.
It's just tiresome when she doesn't want to sleep and I do. Of course it
won't be for too much longer, thank Faranth." It was hard taking care of a
baby and Orlaith and Rhosyn understood the necessity for fostering.
"Sounds fairly typical," U'das grinned. "At least she isn't like U'sel. I
don't think he slept even one night during his first three months. He slept
days and bawled nights. Almost put us off from having more children."
"You had him there with you that long?" She looked at him like he was a bit
off. Then again, she had to remember that not everyone had the same priorities
as she did. As they reached the food, she began to fix her plate thankfully.
"It was during Interval, remember. No Thread, and not that many dragonriders
either. Times were different back then," U'das replied with bit of nostalgia.
"Oh right..." That had seemed so long ago. Rhosyn had spent 26 turns of her
life in the Interval, twelve of them as a rider. She'd never had children before,
though, so didn't understand how it had been different for parents. "Well things
are what they are." She looked down at her middle and realized she still needed to lose
some of the pregnancy weight and stopped reaching for some of the cakes. "Maybe
we can dance a bit after I get this down?"
"Of course we can," U'das replied. He was starting to feel like Rhosyn was
yet another daughter of his. Not necessarily a bad thing. Rhosyn sometimes
seemed to need a father figure.
