The drums had been clear. News like that travelled fast. Thankfully most
Pernese didn't know how to decipher the drum codes. That's why
they had harpers. Sarban knew, though, from turns of being at sea with time
on his hands to read and study. It served him well in his new role.
So when it came in, he hurried to track down Corowal. **First Reven, now
this! Is Lady Felyna safe?** He wished Zandan had reported in already
with some news. This was going to change things.
Corowal could interpret drum messages too, so he was expecting him when
Sarban burst to his office. Seemed like bad news were abundance right now.
"Is Corofel safe?" was his first question. **The shells happened?** was his
next thought but he didn't voice it yet. "Could it have been the same people
that got Reven?" That would mean that Corowal himself wasn't safe or Felyna.
"He is," Corowal had also gotten a flit message from Amber Hills. "I doubt
it. The distance is too great, they couldn't have been able to move from
Green
Valley to Amber Hills in this time, not without dragons."
"I'm just saying, maybe it's some conspiracy. Either way, we definitely
need to make sure security here is briefed and tight." He sighed, shaking
his head. This was not good.
"Well, that's kind of obvious," Corowal grinned but there was no humour in
his expression.
"And no one Blooded goes anywhere by themselves." He tried to think of
anything else.
"Well, that's easier said than done," Corowal sighed. His family had
certain tendencies to do and go as they pleased. And then there was
Erilite, she hated any kind of restrictions placed on her.
"I realize that but if it's a matter of safety, I think everyone can be on
board with that. It's mainly just for the older children since the younger
ones are in lessons or with their fostermother anyway." He sighed, thinking
to himself. This was becoming a bigger headache by the day.
Corowal nodded. "I wish we could get the news faster," he noted. "And since
Zandan is still in Green Valley, will you brief the guards and his second?"
He needed someone he trusted taking care of that. He didn't know Zandan's
Second well enough to trust him.
"For sure." While he was there, Sarban thought to check if there was
anything he had been meaning to pick up anyway. Looking at his box on
Corowal's desk, he grabbed a sheaf of hides.
