Cyradis

Cyradis

Cyradis sat with her feet up looking around her Weyr just a little
troubled. With children and a Weyrmate she normally did quite a bit of
picking up around her weyr but now the place was cluttered and she was
beginning to feel a little stressed about it.

She sighed heavily and then made a mental decision to try and put it
aside and read the book she'd been staring at blindly for the last
quarter candlemark.

Ikalis shifted the tray to her hip and knocked on the door of the
Weyrwoman's quarters. "Ma'am? It's Ikalis, with some food," she
called.

"Come on in Ikalis," she called. She was looking forward to the meal
and some company.

She pushed the door open and carried the tray in. "Tea, bread, and
some finger foods. I can also bring you something more substantial if
you prefer."

"No, this is fine for now," she smiled. "But I do need some fresh Klah."

"I can get that and be right back," she offered.

"That would be lovely, Ikalis. Thank you," she said with a smile as
she swung her legs from the couch and put down the book next to the
tray. Bring a cup for yourself as well. We can have a chat when you
return."

A chat with the Weyrwoman? That sounded interesting. Ikalis hurried
off to request a fresh pot of klah, then brought it and two cups back
up.

"How are you feeling today?"

"I feel fine most of the time," she smiled. "But if I try and do too
much or get stressed I start having contractions and it's just too
soon."

"Is it frustrating to be kept inactive?" She couldn't imagine it.

"More boring than anything else," she smiled. "But I'll do whats
needed to protect the child."

"Do you have things to do? Books to read, even if you can't do hide
work?" A think Ikalis needed to get better at.

"Yes," she smiled. "I would like to dig into the histories of Dolphin
Cove, Do you think you could talk to the archivist and see what you
can find for me?"

"Shouldn't be too difficult, ma'am." She knew the Records Room
keepers, and while she wasn't their favorite, if she said it was for
the Weyrwoman herself, she'd be fine. "Anything else?"

"Oh I'm not sure," she said. There hadn't been many times in her life
when she had this much time to just sit and think. "Do you read much?"

"Not as much as I should," she admitted. "I'm usually outside getting
into trouble when I have free time. Though there is this one adventure
series, about a harper who ran away and hid on a pirate boat and
crossed all the south, that I always really liked."

"That sounds fun," Cyradis chuckled. "Why don't you pick that up for
me too. What's cooking for dinner tonight? I don't have my scrolls in
front of me."

"Stewed herdbeast," she said promptly. "We're running a bit low, so it
might be one of the last times until the feast."

Cyradis nodded, "We'll send a message to one of the beastcrafters to
bring some in from the fields. And I'll let Saibra know we need to
have the wings start a hunting rotation while they're on sweeps. No
domesticated beasts mind. Only the wild ones."

"Do you want me to run those messages, ma'am?" It couldn't hurt to be
entrusted with messages by authority.

"If you would be so kind Ikalis," she smiled. "I've been craving some
sweet rolls. Do you think you could ask cook if she can set some aside
for tomorrow?"

"Absolutely," is what she said. She thought that perhaps she'd make
them herself. Oh, this was exciting!"

"Thank you," the Weywoman smiled. "How long have you been at the
Weyr," she asked. She found she liked to know about the people around
her and how they fit into the grand scheme of things.

"Since I was born. I know where everything is, and I couldn't imagine
going anywhere else," Ikalis said honestly. "I love everything about
this place."

"Well then," Cyradis smiled. "You'd be a great deal of assistance to
me with one of my projects. But we can talk about that later. Tomorrow
we'll discuss it. Does that sound good?"
