Description: R'axe and P'nal get acquainted.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 3 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: D'ale, Yanley
Running around the Bowl, he didn't bother with trying to focus on
other things. His own heartbeats pounded in his ears and he enjoyed
the feeling the exercise gave him. Once he'd gotten his laps in, he
slowed and started his cooldown stretches. The Wingsecond smiled at
some of the people he knew that walked past before he spotted an
unfamiliar face. }:He is a new transfer:{ Jodeth supplied. **Not one
of mine then**
R'axe caught the look from the man and nodded, "Evening." He had
noticed the brownrider, and had quietly observed that the man was
attractive, but alas, those elusive brown and bronzeriders were out of
the reach for the bluerider.
"P'nal, brown Jodeth," he supplied without thinking. Wearing his
exercise clothes, he wasn't wearing knots. He didn't give his rank,
though. Instead, he finished going through his stretches and then
began to drink from the waterskin he had brought. It was cold enough
that he would be going in soon. Maybe the man was hungry too?
He didn't say that he already knew who P'nal was, but he tended to
know Wingleaders and Seconds, "R'axe of blue Jayth, nice to meet you."
R'axe had been in the flight room with P'nal on more than one occasion
as their dragons chased after the same green.
"You too. Was just headed in to get some klah and soup. You hungry?"
It did well to know new riders coming in, even if they weren't in his
wing. After all, they could easily transfer. Besides, he'd see them
around anyway.
R'axe considered the invitation. He didn't normally pursue
conversations that didn't lead to some sort of roll in the furs, but
even the bluerider would admit that life sometimes became a little
lonely without any actual friends. "I was just about to head in that
direction." He agreed, falling into step with P'nal.
"So how do you find Dragonsfall so far? And where did you hail from?"
Where a man came from usually said a lot about him and P'nal was always
curious besides.
"Vista Point, and I am liking Dragonsfall very much," R'axe told him
as they joined the line of others waiting to grab their tray and food
in the Dining Cavern, "The weather is, obviously, quite different, but
I kind of like it."
"Yes very different and it's very different to fly fall in. I'd probably recommend
to you to go up there with your dragon and stay out the length of a normal fall
for you just to get a feel for it before you go into actual Fall."
P'nal thought it was sensible advice.
R'axe waved his hand, "I've been here a few months already, so I've
been broken in properly to Fall, but thanks for the advice anyway.
I've been a big enough pain in D'ale's rear that I am sure he wishes I
had been assigned to Azure Wing instead." This was said good-naturedly
and with a shrug.
"D'ale? Ah...he's a good man. Takes a lot to annoy him so you must have.."
P'nal left that hanging if R'axe wanted to finish it. He wouldn't pry since it
wasn't his wing's business.
The bluerider went ahead and filled P'nal in on the story, "I picked
up a girl at the Hatching Feast, she was from the hold visiting to see
a family member on the Hatching Sands. She was, hm, quite willing, you
would say, but I received a nasty shock when later I found out she was
much younger than she looked." R'axe waved his hand, "So then I had to
hear this whole lecture from D'ale about 'respecting' Holders and not
'making the Weyr look bad'."
"Well...since the Pass hasn't been long into things, we're still feeling things
out with the Holds. We depend on their tithes so we do have to remember to
treat them with respect. Dragonsfall moreso since we're not tropical and don't
have ready access to fish, fruit, etc. I can understand how you might have...
good rule of thumb, though, with hold girls-stay away from them period."
It wasn't his business to share but he supposed R'axe would probably learn it
soon enough anyway. "And D'ale was probably more worried about it since we
had a recent incident. A brownrider got a Blooded woman pregnant. We brought
her here of course and they're weyrmated now but...it could have been a major
issue with the Lord Holder so we can't afford any more problems."
R'axe cocked an eyebrow, "Sounds an awful lot like you are telling the
story of my dear Wingsecond and his Lady Yanley." There was no
escaping Weyr gossip and especially not when you were in the same Wing
as the man. Also being as well traveled as he was (through peoples'
beds, mind you) R'axe got a lot of information from a lot of different places.
"Maybe so. Still, doesn't matter who it was-it's just one of those sensitive
situations for the Weyr. So maybe that's something to keep in mind in
future. Besides that though I hope you haven't had any issues? Fellow
wingmates or anything?" He knew people here could be different when it
came to newcomers.
The bluerider shook his head, "No, no problems. I am generally a
people person anyway so I make friends pretty easily." Well, 'friends'
wasn't really the right way to describe it. 'Bed partners' would be
more accurate. Still, R'axe could use charm and persuasion when
necessary. He was sure he would like D'ale more, too, once he got over
the sting of being reprimanded, something that had never really
happened to him before.
"Glad to hear it." Sitting down and spreading out his plate, he was quiet as let
the bluerider do the same. Happy to have something warm in his belly, he gave it
a rest for awhile before bringing anything else up.
