Abrei

Abrei

As the Weyrhealer of River Bluff, it was easy enough for Abrei to find a ride to Dragonsfall Weyr. Young riders didn't question _why_ the Weyrhealer needed to go to Dragonsfall... unlike U'val, who tended to pry. She thanked the bluerider who'd dropped her off politely enough before heading into the Weyr proper. She was just as glad that no one had questioned her mission, because she wasn't actually sure she wanted to examine her on motives too closely. Checking on U'kaiah seemed to be a noble enough goal, but she had the sneaking suspicion that it wasn't the real reason she wanted to visit.

"U"kaiah..." Abrei stuck her head around the door of his weyr cautiously, hoping someone else hadn't decided to pay U'kaiah a visit before she had.

The wingleader looked up from the stack of hides he had been examining.
"Abrei?" He was surprised to see her come through his door, though not unpleasantly so. "What brings you here?"

She slipped through the door and closed it behind her. "I needed to get away... so I thought I'd come check on you."

"Ah," he said as he set down his hidework and pen. "Do you want a drink?"

Abrei slumped onto his couch, slouching down until her head rested on the back of the couch. "Sure, if you've got something..." "Sure..." He walked over to his cupboard and scanned the few bottles remaining. "I've got... hard, or harder..."

"After the past few days..." She glanced over at him. "I'll take anything.
You choose." He grabbed a bottle and a couple glasses and walked over to flop down on the sofa beside her. "Long week, huh?" he asked, handing her a glass and pulling the cork out with his teeth.

"Isn't it always?" she replied, holding her glass out for him to fill. "I came to check on you, though. Unless you really want to hear my list of reasons I think men are useless." She glanced and him and added hastily, "Except you, of course. U'kaiah glanced up at her as he poured amber liquor into her glass. "Thank you, Abrei. I'm glad I'm not _completely_ worthless." He gave her teasing smile.

"Mostly because you let me say stupid things that make everyone else hate me." Abrei pulled the glass back and drank the entire thing in one gulp.
Then she sputtered for a few moments as the fiery liquid burned down her throat. "Shards, that _is_ hard..."

"Whoa there, Abrei. Take it easy," he gently rubbed her back until the sputtering stopped. "Now what is _really_ on your mind, hmm?"

She cradled the glass in her hands, staring down at it. "Can I ask you a question, U'kaiah?" "Of course," he nodded as he leaned back into the cushions.

Abrei didn't look at him. "Do men really like women better if they act stupid?" He took a sip and swished it around his mouth as he considered the question.
"Some men. Not me personally, but some men do."

Without looking at him she held her glass out again. "That's so sad. Why would anyone want to spend their time with someone who acts like a nitwit?" U'kaiah sighed and pulled the cork back out of the bottle. "Well," he shrugged as he splashed a bit more into her glass, "some men like a girl who acts stupider than them because... I guess it makes them feel smarter."

"That's moronic," Abrei protested, taking a cautious sip from her glass this time. "Besides, he's plenty smart on his own," she muttered grumpily, sinking further into the couch. "And who would _he_ be?" He slipped a bit more alcohol in her glass to smooth her confession. Abrei had found another man? The bronzerider couldn't help his little teasing grin.

Abrei glared at him. "_He_ would be Lenala's new pet. Excuse me... Lenala's new _weyrmate_." "_Lenala_ settled down?" U'kaiah smiled down into the amber liquid in his glass. "Huh. Well, good for her."

"Oh yes, it's wonderful," Abrei muttered, emptying her glass again. It was going to take a lot more alcohol to erase her disappointment in M'galec.
"And now he doesn't like me because I thought he was joking when he told me.
I laughed at him."

The bronzerider could help a quiet chuckle. "Oh Abrei, I'm sure it can't be _that_ bad." "But it is," she protested, turning to look at him. "You don't get it because you don't live at River Bluff, U'kaiah. No one likes me, because I can't keep my mouth shut. And it's not fair, because I didn't used to care!"

He slipped an arm around her. "I'm _sure_ that's not true, Abrei. I'm sure there are _lots_ of people who like you."

Abrei stared at him for a moment and then rolled her eyes. "You're nice, U'kaiah. You're wrong, but you're nice. And if you don't start trying to get me into bed soon, I'm going to climb out of my skin from sexual frustration."

To say U'kaiah was a little surprised would be an understatement. Sure, things had happened when he stayed the night at her weyr, but he had thought that was a one time moment of mutual grief and understanding. "Abrei, did you come here with designs on seducing me?"

"Shards, no," Abrei replied dryly. "I was hoping you'd just feel really sorry for me..." She set her glass aside and turned to face U'kaiah. "I wouldn't blame you for saying no... I'm still half in love with the sharding arse who left me and I'm obviously socially inept. But you're the only person I can ask..."

"All right, wait." U'kaiah set his glass down and turned to look at her.
"First of all, I would not have sex with you just because I felt sorry for you. I would have sex with you because you are a sharding beautiful woman.
And of course if you are feeling... lonely and unappreciated, I would be more than happy to remind you that you are a gorgeous and exciting woman.
But, shards Abrei, there are easier and much more pleasant ways of telling me than just blurting it out. This way, you're liable to give me heart failure."

"Well, I didn't exactly have to worry about telling R'han that I wanted sex," Abrei retorted. "If you want me to be less blunt, _you_ tell me what to do." Sometimes U'kaiah couldn't believe Abrei was actually _older_ than he was.
It was kind of endearing. "Just touch me," he whispered as he raised his fingers to gently brush against her cheek, her jaw, her lips. Leaning forward carefully, for he was still a big wary of her powerful right hook, he caressed the skin beneath her lobe with his lips and breath.

Hitting him seemed like the farthest thing from her mind as she leaned into his touch, glad the talking part was over. She wasn't sure if the alcohol had done more harm than good--it certainly hadn't blunted her typical straightforward nature. Either way she'd gotten what she wanted... a man was touching her again. And she was touching him, fumbling with the laces on his shirt as her usually nimble fingers were foiled by need and alcohol. "Slow down, Abrei," he whispered into her ear as he reached up to help her with the strings. "Considering I'm probably your ride home, you've got plenty of time. No need to rush."

She laughed somewhat breathlessly, tugging at his shirt until she managed to bare his chest to her fingers. "I've always been impatient, U'kaiah... you know that. If you want me to slow down, make me." The bronzerider grinned at her challenge. Now _that_ was seduction!
