Thoughts About Later

Writers: Avery, Chelle
Date Posted: 4th June 2014

Characters: P'nal, Talwynn
Description: The riders catch up and discuss Gathers and Holds.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 7

The brownrider found himself walking towards a table, eager for some hot klah and soup.
It was cold outside so they didn't have to fly Fall. Still, sweeprides would be sent out after
to check on the folks so P'nal was taking the time to relax before going out into the weather.
"Hey Talwynn," he greeted as he saw the greenrider head by.

"How's it going, P'nal?" She waved the bad hand in greeting. "How's Jodeth?"

"Eh same ole same ole. We just do drills, fly Thread, and chase greens." He shrugged and
gave his big grin that sported white teeth against his dark skin. "Of course the last one is
the most important. You?"

"I'll have to remember that when Riveth goes up." Which would be soon, actually. "Ah, drills.
Never thought I miss that."

"Well drills are fine. It's having to knock sense into some of my riders that's a drain on my
time. Better to fix it before we go up though. Thank Faranth, it's colder so not so many Falls."
Indeed, this was the time that he got a rest and they had less casualties.

"Always a good thing. And at least with dragons, we don't have to stay in the cold forever like
Holders might."

"So what do they have you doing these days?" It was something he had always wondered, even
as he sent some of his riders into the retired wing every now and again. He knew they stood watch
duty, both at the Weyr and the Holds which was useful.

"Messages and watch duty, mostly," she said. "I really miss sweeprides." Now that she was
working with the Healers on rehab, she was hoping that could change.

"I'd imagine J'darin could use your help with the weyrlings sometimes. Like a lecture or two maybe."
Indeed, that would leave time for the Weyrlingmasters to deal with drills. He tried to think of other
things riders like her could do.

She nodded. "There's a few I'll help out with. This weyrling class is...interesting. A few of them seem
like strong personalities."

"I'd say so though I've only met a few of them including the goldrider. I don't envy him his job at all."
He grinned, thinking he had indeed got the easy post when it came to things. It was good though that
his friend had someone to focus on and give himself purpose.

"Haven't met her yet. Lot of holdbreds in this one...the flights talk is going to be interesting, for sure."
She could think of at least 2 who would probably take it badly. "Do you go to Gathers much?" she asked
after a moment.

Something flickered in his mind about Turnover at Amber Hills and a drudge in a back hallway. Seems like
that had been a long time ago. "I do sometimes, aye. Nice to go to the places with warmer weather right
about now. Plus I can get hides and leathers to use for my craft projects when I have time."

"Right, you're a Tanner?" she guessed. "I like helping set up for the ones in our territory, sometimes we'll
fly supplies out and help lift, or deliver letters for marks."

"I imagine that would be useful and let you meet different people." He didn't get to travel as much as he used
to but planned on doing it a bit more now that it was winter and they didn't have to fly every Threadfall. "What's
your favorite place?"

"Opal Cove," she responded immediately. "The main hold building has such a fantastic design. And there's a high
peak nearby where there's a brilliant view of the sky."

"Mmm I remember it well from my turns at the Hall. I came here on Search though and then I stayed of course."
Smiling, he could see the Hold and well understood her liking of it.

"Ooh, Hall-trained? Lucky man." It was nice that the men could do that. "Next time there's a Gather we should go."

"You're on." He knew she had been on her way to doing something when he stopped her so he smiled and signaled
she could go on if she needed to. "I'll see you around."
