Y'gel

Y'gel

After the arrival of the traders and their discovery of the young
girl's talents. Y'gel had taken leave of the family and gone quickly
into the lower caverns to find Solaria. He trotted through the
kitchens and finally came to her office.

"Sol," he knocked on her door frame. "Do you have a minute?"

Sol looked up from her pile of hides - it was never ending - and
smiled as she recognized Y'gel's voice and his frame in her doorway.

"Well of course I do. I never tire of making time for handsome
bronzeriders, even if they are weyrmated to girls more than half their
age. Come in, come in! " Solieira looked closely at him. It didn't
appear to be anything to do with Briata, or Faranth forbid, Rhosyn's
daughter, who was in their care. It seemed decidedly not too serious.

"What brings you around to brighten my day, Y'gel?"

"Hopefully wonderful news," he dimpled at her. "We've got a trader
caravan in the bowl but that isn't the amazing news. A young girl just
walked up to Aughashyth and started chatting with him. Then D'arvn's
blue marked her as candidate material. She was hearing _both_ of them
Sol."

Sol put her quill down and focused solely on Y'gel when he spoke.
She had known about the trader caravan, of course, but the rest of it
was news.

"She... what?" Her brown eyes turned large with ideas and thoughts
that suddenly came to life. Briata had refused... but maybe this
girl... "She heard them both? Faranth! That is fantastic! Oh
oh... if we could get her to Stand. That would be just what this
Weyr needs. Y'gel.. imagine!! How wonderful that would be! That
_is_ good news!" She rose to her feet, still maintaining some grace
even at her age.

"For that, you deserve a special treat."

"Oh really," his brow lifted. "But there's more. She's with her
grandparents, and we have to convince them to stay. She's young so I
kind of told them they could stay and she could live with them until
she Impressed."

Sol grinned, having meant only a sweet treat, not _that_ kind of
treat. But, before she could comment further, he went on with the
rest of the story.

"You invited the girl's grandparents to stay at the Weyr?" Her
eyebrows arched curiously. "But they're traders... do they have
enough inventory to keep them busy here?" That question was more for
herself than for Y'gel, but the next one was for him. "They will have
to do some sort of work while they stay, you know. Did you tell them
that, by chance?" Her lips twitched with a hint of laughter.

"No sorry," he said. Why was it he always felt like a boy when she
looked at him like that. "He did say something about sending the
wagons on. But my main concern was keeping them here."

"That's very good, Y'gel. It will be a pleasure to have a few new
faces to talk with, in any event. And maybe I can set them something
easy... like helping me inventory our old stores, figure out what it
would be worth to a trader." Her eyes lit with interest. Obviously,
it was more important that they stay if that is what it took to keep
the girl, and she would feed them for no work if it came to that,
having a candidate that could hear all dragons, and whats more, wanted
to hear them, would be worth it!

"Oh, I'm very excited!" She, for a moment, looked turns younger, "Its
all important that we keep the young lass, and her grandparents, if
that is what it takes. Care to introduce me to them? We can stop by
the kitchens on the way. " Yes, he seemed like a young boy to her.
They all did. It didn't matter their ages. Even U'das, who was her
equal in turns, seemed like a boy that needed her to "mother' him.
Though in his case, mothering was _not_ what she did for him!!

"Of course," he smiled. He held out his arm as if he were going to
escort her out onto a dance floor. "They're by the infirmary."
