Ma'din

His boot tapped steadily against the stone as he reclined to watch
Aznith dip deeper into the lake. He made no effort to join his brown;
the dragon had sighted a pretty green and was occupied in getting to
know the young thing. Ma'din watched with a very slight smirk to his
mouth.

"'Afternoon Ma'din," D'ale called as he and Torerath landed by the
side of the Weyrlake. Torerath went into the waters as D'ale set his
pail and brushes down on the shore to wait.

A quirk of his brow and a flick of a gaze was the only sign that
Ma'din even noted D'ale's presence. The man may have been his
Wingleader, but they were not in drills, so Ma'din felt no need to be
social.

D'ale's bland expression didn't falter at the lack of response. Some
riders were simply difficult to get to know for many reasons and it
wasn't his job to be the man's friend. If he wanted to talk D'ale's
office was open. He wondered though at the reports from other riders
that told him Ma'din was just rude to everyone all the time. Was this
just a sample of the rider's rudeness or was it something else.

Torerath came out of the water and D'ale bent to retrieve handfuls of
sweetsand to begin washing the big brown in silence.

Aznith waded back to the shore and shook a bit, spattering water off
of his wings. He craned his head to look at Torerath and gave a rumble
of greeting. More social than his rider, he didn't fail to notice
Ma'din's lack of response. }: I am ready. :{

Ma'din rose and walked to the edge of the water, gathering up his own
brushes and buckets of sweetsand.

}: It would not hurt you to say hello and be pleasant. :{

It was a common argument between the pair. ** It might. Oh. My
stomach. It burns. **

}: You are such an ass. :{ There was a soft huff from the brown.

Ma'din's lips quirked up in response. **You were already aware of that.**

}: True. :{ Aznith peered at Torerath and his rider with interest.

The silent treatment had never been something that bothered D'ale and
in fact he was better at it than most. So he simply went about his
business though he could tell the dragon and his rider were chatting
as so often happened at the bathing pools.

Torerath looked a Aznith. }:Does yours have an aversion to talking to
mine? I notice he did not speak.:{

Aznith turned to gaze at Torerath. }: No more than anyone else. Mine
is not the most social person. :{ He glanced down at his rider. }: And
it's probably for the best, I think. He tends to anger people. :{

}:Does yours do that on purpose?:{ Torerath asked curiously. He peered
at Aznith's rider with curiosity looking for signs of this behavior.

}:Sometimes. He likes to see what makes people 'tick'. But he's not
stupid. Your rider is leader, so he keeps his mouth shut....for now.:{

D'ale's lips twitched where he stood on the other side of his brown.
Torerath was relaying his conversation with the other brown and it
only confirmed what he already knew about the other rider. **Trouble
waiting to happen.** "You're good to rinse," he told his lifemate out
loud.

}:That is probably a good idea. Mine has sometimes made other riders
eyes leak.:{ He knew this was significant because their dragons were
unhappy when their riders did this.

There was a mental scoff. }: Mine's eyes do not leak. They have never leaked. :{

}:No?:{ the older brown queried. Then he blew air under the water and
came back to shore to be oiled. }:Well perhaps it would be the first
time then.:{

}: I think not. :{ Aznith replied with confidence. He relayed the
conversation to his rider.

Ma'din arched a brow and turned to face D'ale, arms crossed over his
chest. So, the man thought he would break down in tears? That was

almost funny.

D'ale's expression barely twitched as he gazed impassively back at the
other brownrider. He could only imagine what the younger man was
thinking about their lifemate's conversation but he had a pretty good
idea. Then he simply turned his back and began oiling Torerath. Of
course the majority of crying had been done by women when he'd moved
on to cherish someone else, but that part of his life was different
now. **You're impossible**

}:But it's true:{

**Yes, but not the way you think.** D'ale couldn't help the grin that
spread across his face where M'a'din couldn't see.

Ma'din snorted and like D'ale turned to oil his dragon. **Idiot.**
