Description: Saibra questions Tavia's reasons for staying at Dragonsfall.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 28 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Teseada, U'kaiah, Hygalia, Cyradis
Saibra had already met Tavia briefly at the last Wing drills that
they'd had. She had just watched, of course, and left most of the
leading to Teseada so that she could figure out the way the
Dragonsfall Sienna Wing worked together. Now that they were in
private, Saibra had some other things that she wanted to know.
"Please have a seat, Tavia, thank you for coming by." Her office was
still a bit in shambles as she tried to sort through the things that
Hygalia had left behind.
"Of course ma'am," she smiled. She knew it would be important for the
new Weyrwoman to get to know her riders. Not that Hygalia had ever
bothered with her when she transferred but this one was new and
completely unfamiliar with the wing. She slid into the seat across
from her.
"I understand that you are still rather new to Dragonsfall as well,"
Saibra began as she looked across her desk at the other woman,
"because you wanted to be closer to Wingleader U'kaiah. I was
wondering why you chose not to follow him North?" It was a question
that Saibra had also asked of Aileyan.
"Yes," she nodded. "I came here from Dolphin Cove like you." She
smiled but wasn't quite sure she really wanted to share her reasons
for staying beyond one simple fact. "I came here because I wanted my
son to be closer to his father," she said and then her smile tuned
just a little guarded. "I didn't go because I wasn't asked."
"Well, that is one reason not to go." Saibra said lightly and then added,
"I only asked to see if I should be expecting you to follow him."
Tavia looked at her hands for a moment before she decided to lay it
all out on the table. "Things between me and the bronzerider weren't
the same after I moved here. There was never a lot of time when he'd
visit Dolphin Cove but here it was even worse. I want Kaiavin to know
his father but," she shrugged. "Sometimes it just doesn't work out."
Saibra nodded, agreeing with that statement more than she could say,
"Before you came to Dragonsfall were you apart of the Queen's Wing?"
Saibra inquired.
"Yes," Tavia smiled. "I've always served in the Queen's Wing." She
shrugged. "Sawauth has always been particularly fierce protecting
Gold."
It took special individuals to fly in the Queen's Wing, especially
since the majority of rescues fell on them, and Saibra was grateful
for Tavia's experience, "Well, I may do things differently than
Hygalia, but I trust we will build a strong Wing that the Weyr can
depend on." Teseada was very young for a Wingsecond, but Saibra
couldn't afford to be choosy.
"You've recently come from Dolphin Cove and I served there all my
career prior to Dragonsfall. I am happy to help however you might
need." She smiled at the gold rider. "I've even got a bottle of
Cyradis special brew still in my weyr."
Saibra's eyebrows raised, "I could tell from the moment we met that
you were going to be my favorite wingrider." She grinned a little
relaxing a bit from her Weyrwoman demeanor, "Don't you miss the sun
and warmth?"
Tavia laughed. "Oh so much I can't even tell you. But its only a
thought away so I sometimes take Kaiavin to see his grandparents."
"Yes, I have found myself escaping to the sunlight as much as
possible. My son has already adapted. He loves the snow, it is the
first time he has seen it." Saibra wished that she could adapt as
quickly as Kaibren had.
"I know what you mean. It was so hard when I came here. Having to
remember a coat when you go out onto your ledge or into the bowl." She
shook her head. "You really should come to my weyr and have a bit of
Cyradis' Citroncello. We can scoop some fresh snow into a bowl and
pour it over. It's quite yummy."
Saibra raised an eyebrow dubiously, "You _eat_ snow?"
"Yes," she nodded. "U'kaiah showed me how to do it with the fresh snow
that's just fallen. And with flavoring it's very refreshing."
"I will have to take your word on that one, but rest assured at the
next sign of snow I expect a taste do this Citroncello Snow." The
Weyrwoman smiled.
"You've got it," Tavia smiled.
