The score is currently : J'darin - 0 , Ninaine and Luneth - 1.
J'darin stood outside, counting in his head. He would take whatever
chance he had to help Ninaine adjust to weyrlife. Whenever he had a
moment to do it.
**Hasaarth.... if Ninaine doesn't appear in 5 breaths, please remind
Luneth that she must stay in the barracks. But only if she doesn't...
hear me?**
He didn't walk back toward the barracks, he didn't want to further
distract the green, but he did pitch his voice, "Like a bandaid
lass... quick and painless..."
"But she's crying..." Ninaine called out, her voice pained. She looked
back at Luneth, who sat back on her haunches, her cries becoming
shrill. Her fingers curled and her eyes watered. She couldn't bear to
hear those cries. She bit her lower lip and sucked in a quick breath
and made a dash for the barracks entrance. She pushed out of the
doors, only to be nearly barreled over by a panicked green hatchling.
}: Mine! Mine! Don't go!! :{
Ninaine fell on her bottom with a loud 'oof' and abruptly had her lap
overflowing with trembling, upset green hatchling.
Hasaarth bellowed in aggravation from the Heights, though thankfully
he did not land in the bowl.
}:You must do better, hatchling! Must! Yours is fine, no one is going
to hurt her. But you might hurt her with your actions and you must
not do that. :{
His bronze spoke to the green before J'darin could stop him, though
thankfully, the tone was merely aggravated and not angry. Not yet.
J'darin heaved a large sigh.
"Lass, lass. We must do better. However, it was only her first
time. We will try again tomorrow, yes?."
Luneth tucked herself against Ninaine even tighter. }: I won't hurt
her. You're just mean! MEAN! :{ Luneth whimpered and pressed more, as
if afraid they would physically drag her from her rider. The motion
shoved Ninaine's skirts up to reveal pale thighs.
**Luneth...air! ** Ninaine's face was pink from the weight of her
green and heaved a sigh of relief as Luneth let up, but not enough to
get off of her. **I have to get up. Get off.**
}: You won't go away? :{ There was a plaintive, whining note to the voice.
**Get up, _now_!** Ninaine's frustration and embarrassment was evident
from the flush in her face and as Luneth scrambled off, Ninaine rose,
hurriedly tugging the skirt down and very carefully avoiding J'darin's
gaze. **Never ever do that again!** Luneth hunkered low, her head
hanging. **If I tell you to stay somewhere, you stay! You've
embarrassed me completely! Go back to the barracks.**
}: But... :{
"Now!" The combination of mental and vocal commands made Luneth
squawk. She began walking to the barracks, looking over her shoulder
with little whimpers. **Go!** Whimpering, Luneth ducked into the
barracks, but only inside the door.
Hasaarth added his own command. This time, with more force behind it.
}:GO! You must listen to your rider! Or I will show you 'mean':{ He
wasn't quite sure what that meant, but he thought it was bad the way
the hatchling was tossing it at him. He could be bad if needed. He
could be 'mean'. }:I am much bigger and wiser than you. You
mind!:{
J'darin only watched and remained silent. This battle was Ninaine's
to fight, though they could help where possible. **Enough Hasaarth.
Let her manage her own dragon for a moment. Give her a chance. **
At Hasaarth's words, Luneth yelped in fear and darted back into the
barracks. It wasn't long before long, keening wails were heard, sharp
and piercing. Ninaine winced and wrung her hands. "I can't do this...I
can't listen to this. She needs me."
"You WILL do this, Ninaine. You WILL. You may go inside in 2 more
minutes, but you WILL stand here and listen to her. She is fine and
she needs to learn this, or someone will get worse than a scratch. Or
worse, she will hurt another dragon and put both dragons at risk for
fighting and losing one.. or both. " There was no room for
argument.
"Tomorrow, you will stand here for 3 minutes, and the next day 5
minutes, and the next day 10. But YOU WILL DO IT. " His voice
inched up in aggravation and he narrowed his eyes at her.
"For her safety and yours, along with other dragons and riders, you WILL DO
IT!"
In that moment, Ninaine felt a surge of frustration that she could
barely cover. She turned her face away and crossed her arms over her
chest. As Luneth cried for her, Ninaine's eyes shut tightly as she
tried to keep tears from seeping out. She counted as the seconds
passed and the moment she hit two minutes, she bolted to the barracks,
leaving J'darin behind. She slipped inside and immediately the high
pitched shrieks stopped.
J'darin looked after her for a moment, swore softly, then took himself off.
He would try again tomorrow.
This was not going to be easy.
