After everything had happened at the Hatching, she had avoided Dolphin
Cove like the plague. Still, Rhosyn had wanted to see Cyradis and she
couldn't stay away from the Weyr for forever. So River Bluff's
Weyrwoman hitched a ride with a senior green weyrling and landed,
without many the wiser.
Trying to be inconspicuous, she made her way directly to the goldrider's
weyr. Hopefully Saibra or Meledei or whoever else wouldn't be around,
or even the children. They should be having lessons anyway. **Knock
knock** she thought as she walked up to the ledge. "Cyradis, are you in here?"
"In here," Cyradis called. The voice was familiar though she couldn't
quite place it. She sometimes thought there was a conspiracy in the
Weyr to make sure she was never alone for more than an hour at a time.
**Ah good** Rhosyn walked inside, entering until she saw the other
Weyrwoman. "Thought it was about time I came to visit since I'm up and
about now and you're not." She thought that was sort of funny of
course. Then again, she wished Cyradis wasn't having such a hard time,
like they said. Her own pregnancy hadn't been difficult, just long.
Cyradis smiled. "It's good to see you. N'vanik has been bragging about
little Nisha. How are you feeling?"
"Me? Well it's strange getting back into the saddle again, but I'm
catching up. So much to do. Tsaera helped a lot though, but she's
leaving now so it's me and Lenala again." Rhosyn's relief showed
underneath her even tone. "Good to have work to do. Keeps my mind off
of so many things. Like Hygalia." Her hazel eyes flashed before she
took a deep breath to calm down. **Don't upset the pregnant lady**
Cyradis knew she would have welcomed the kind of help a rider like
Tsaera could have brought to the Weyr but also understood how someone
like that looking over your shoulder could make anyone uncomfortable.
"I know what you mean," she nodded. "Even though I know someone is
needed in the north I'm sure G'nir is devastated by her loss."
"I don't know G'nir that well or even what their relationship was
like. I mean.. N'vanik and Janani were never romantic or anything but
when she up and left the same way it upset him very much. Not on his
account but the Weyr's. Now this time, G'nir has a right to be upset
because she just flew. I mean...I would have thought that she would
have stayed long enough for the clutch to be laid. Those are Nirreth's
eggs and they belong at Dragonsfall. Still in a Pass for a Weyr to
lose their Weyrwoman...pft." Of all the things.
"I've visited with Hygalia several times," Cyradis replied. "I know
she considered G'nir her 'mate if anyone held that distinction. Though
I highly doubt G'nir kept himself for her and they didn't actually
live together. But I've known him quite awhile and from what I've seen
of them together," she said softly. "They cared."
"So then Teseada will be taking care of things until something is
figured out I suppose. She's young, but as Second she's been doing the
duties for awhile whenever Hygalia was grounded at least." That was
something. "But anyway, enough of that. How much longer do you have?"
Cyradis smiled and nodded her agreement to the change of subject. "A
little over a month," she smiled.
"Well that's not too bad. Of course you've done it before so you're
not as afraid as I was, knowing what to expect and all. Do you want a
boy or girl?" Rhosyn remembered something about Cyradis having all
girls, but she couldn't remember exactly.
"Well personally I already have both boys and girls," she smiled. "But
I think K'deren would like a son even though he hasn't said as much."
"Oh...you have quite a few children." She just had the one and wasn't quite
as attached as Cyradis was it seemed. Rhosyn had always been that way
about children though. "Hopefully it'll be a boy then. We'll see. K'sedel had
quite a few boys so it's in the blood."
"Yes, most likely." Cyradis smiled. "Just as N'vanik seems to have
daughters. Have you met his daughter Cosani? She's a sweet girl."
Rhosyn shrugged, indicating she hadn't met the greenrider and at this
point didn't expect to really though she knew of her. "I don't know if
Nisheyl will be sweet or otherwise. With my genes, it's a possibility
it'll be the otherwise."
"Is she a happy baby or an angry baby?" Cyradis knew from her own
brood there were signs early. "Most of mine were happy, then came
Kielya," she shook her head.
"I mean...well she was just a baby. Cry, sleep, drink. She watches people
though." Other than that, she didn't know much. Since she'd given the
baby to Briata she had yet to visit. There was just too much going on.
Plus there was the problem with Y'gel so she didn't go near there.
Cyradis just smiled. That was the voice of an inexperienced mother but
she wasn't going to comment because she doubted the other woman would
really care. That and she didn't need to butt in with her own advice.
"I would love to see her someday," she smiled. "Maybe after mine is
born."
"I'm sure once she's old enough, she'll be coming this way." Rhosyn
didn't mind one way or another. Of course that was Briata's decision
and she
trusted the young woman. "Listen, I don't want to tire you but I did
want to come and say hello. There's a weyrling waiting on me
somewhere. And if you need anything, I'm halfway across the continent
but a between away though of course you'd probably do better with
someone else if it's about baby things." She said the last sheepishly
but admitting her failings. Rhosyn had never expected to be a good
mother.
"I'm sure she will," Cyradis smiled. "And I'm sure she'll be well
taken care of here too."
