It was a surprise to F'aen when he felt the all too familiar sensation
of Scarleth rising. She had missed her last mating flight when F'aen
had been seriously threadscored and bed-ridden for a while. That had
left her next flight very up in the air, literally.
It gave F'aen a little consolation knowing that his moodiness lately
hadn't been all his fault and that at least some of it he could blame
on general green waspishness. As he stepped into the flight room he
froze. The first pair of eyes his met belonged to those of D'naz.
Keluth had won one of Scarleth's flights before, it had been one of
the ways he and D'naz had deepened their relationship.
A slight shudder ran down F'aen's spine just remembering how good
things had been between him and D'naz. And then D'naz had ruined it
all by breaking up with them, all because he had gotten Threadscored.
Gritting his teeth together, F'aen turned his back on D'naz's
presence, and noted that a few other blueriders and a couple of brown
had joined them in the flight room.
}:Scarleth is going up! I will have her!:{ Outside, Chaneth tracked
the gorgeous green. He remembered that he'd wanted her, and this time
he would claim her!
**I have class in-!** But he could tell his dragon's desires wouldn't
be denied. "Do you think you could -" he asked one of the assistants.
The greenrider laughed, knowing what was gong on. "I'll give the
weyrlings one of the surprise quizzes at the beginning of class. That
should take them a bit," he said.
Hopefully that would give the weyrlings enough to do - and surely all
three Weyrlingmasters dragons weren't going to chase.
But when he got to the flight room, there D'naz was. **Poor
weyrlings,** he thought to himself before his dragon's mind took over
fully and nothing mattered but F'aen and Scarleth.
Scarleth was extra eager for this flight, having waited such a long
span after her last one because of F'aen. Now it was _her_ time!
Screeching her defiance, the green shot to the sky leaving her brown
and blue suitors to follow.
Chaneth was off moment after. He would have this gorgeous green! He
was aware of another blue suitor close to him, but he paid that one no
mind. He was the best and she would know it.
F'aen's agitation at D'naz's presence calmed some as he and Scarleth
melded mentally, allowing him to escape the small confines of the
flight room and soar with her above the Weyr. The blue skies were
unending and it felt as if they could fly for days! Except, they had a
handsome pack of males to tease and flirt with, and no respectable
green could pass that up!
Scarleth darted in and out of the faint cloud cover, using her size
and her agility to her advantage as she led the males on a wild and
frenzied chase.
Chaneth might be as big as a smaller brown, but he was fast enough to
keep up with some of Scarleth's moves. }:I would be good for you,
lovely lady!:{ he promised as he edged past a brown to display his
hide to her.
So caught up was she in her aerial maneuevers that Scarleth nearly
slammed straight into Keluth. In her surprise she rapidly backwinged,
right into Chaneth's waiting talons.
She had chosen him! Him over his challengers! Chaneth wrapped his tail
around hers
and holding the green, began the mating dive.
On the ground, L'pin pushed past this other challengers, reaching out to
pull F'aen
against him and move towards a cot. His mouth sought the other man's, his
body
burning with need. It had been so long since he won.
The thought flitted through F'aen's mind that he was glad a bluerider had
won. That
meant they could take their time an enjoy their flight together, which
wasn't always
possible with a brownrider. This was just one more step in forgetting D'naz.
