Description: Abrei questions K'mai over his supposed troubles sleeping.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 2 of Turn 3
Abrei looked over the file and then up at K'mai, a slightly worried frown on her face. "It says here you've been before for problems sleeping."
"Oh, it's no big deal," the bluerider said.
"Are you sure?" Abrei pressed. "How long has this been going on for?"
"Just a few weeks." K'mai shifted in the chair. "It's no big deal," he repeated.
"K'mai..." Abrei gave him a firm look. "I think you'll let _me_ decide what is a big deal and what isn't. I can't have riders who aren't getting enough sleep... that sort of thing could lead to injuries during Thread."
"I'm getting enough sleep, Abrei--Weyrhealer. I promise." He was going to have to say no to Tiya if she asked again. This was just too much.
Abrei didn't look satisfied. "Then why do you need something to help you sleep?"
"Well, if I have something to help me sleep, then I get enough sleep. That's how those things are supposed to work, right?" The bluerider was growing more uneasy by the minute.
"You're supposed to get enough sleep to begin with," she replied dryly.
"Without the medication, that is. When someone needs help sleeping, it usually indicates an underlying problem."
"I'm fine," K'mai said with a weak smile.
"If you say so..." Abrei made a few notes and stood, fetching a pouch with a sevenday's supply of a mild sleep aid. "If there is something else bothering you, K'mai, I hope you'd trust me enough to tell me," she said when she returned, setting the pouch down next to him.
The bluerider struggled with his conscience for a moment. Protect Tiya and lie to Abrei, or tell the truth and reveal that Tiya was the one having trouble? He lifted the pouch. "Thank you, Weyrhealer," he said as he stood.
The look Abrei gave him was mildly disappointed, but she simply nodded and closed his file. "Well, if you can think of anything else you want to tell me, you know where to find me, K'mai."
He nodded. "Thanks again." K'mai left her office, feeling guilty. Lying to Abrei was definately not the high point of his day. **This is the last time, Tiya.**
