Description: Saibra goes to meet the DFW Weyrlingmaster.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 26 of Turn 7
Saibra knocked on the Weyrlingmaster's door, even though it was open,
before she stepped into the office. She was not surprised to see
uneven stacks across the man's desk, she had heard that G'nir required
written reports on the Weyrlings. It was a bit excessive, she thought,
but the Weyrleader had his ways and from what Saibra had seen of
Dragonsfall, G'nir's ways worked.
"You are J'darin," she extended her hand to the Weyrlingmaster, "the
one who nearly won Chioneth's flight." She smiled. Only a few days
into her tenure as Senior Weyrwoman and Saibra was trying to make her
rounds and get to know everyone.
J'darin was once trying to divide and conquer the many stacks on his
desk. When he looked up at the knock, his blue eyes went incredibly
wide in interest, and a great deal of surprise. It was their new
Weyrwoman. And to remind him of the near miss with Hasaarth....He
did not think Hygalia had ever come to see him. Not once...
His lips curved in a wide, slightly sassy, smile. "Chioneth was wise
to consider Hasaarth. We would have flown you both well." His eyes
sparkled lightly, showing he was simply teasing, responding to her
opening comment.
He rose to his feet in politeness, tipping his head to her in respect.
"You are Saibra, and I welcome you to Dragonsfall. We are lucky to
have you and your fine queen so soon after losing Hygalia."
He made an inviting gesture. "Sit? I have some klah somewhere in all
of this mess." He made his way over to the wall where some fresh
klah sat next to a picture of juice.
"I am sure you would have flown us well." Saibra agreed, her eyes
showing obvious interest in the handsome Weyrlingmaster, "But I hear
that you are weyrmated and happy." She grinned at that and sat down in
the offered chair as she watched him go for the klah. She had once
been weyrmated and happy with K'fel, but she doubted that it would
ever happen again. Still, you never knew exactly how exclusive
weyrmates were, it often varied.
He fixed her a cup of klah. Thankfully the young drudge that often
cared for him, made sure he had clean mugs for guests. He did have
guests often, after all.
He returned to his chair across from her and offered her the mug, with
a plate with sweeteners to choose from, to fix as she liked her klah.
When she brought up the fact that he was weyrmated and happy, there
was no stopping the sappy grin that stole across his face.
"You hear rightly, my lady. I am a very lucky bronzerider. I am
not sure how I convinced her to move in with me, but she did.
Still... flying a queen... it is what Hasaarth was bred to do, and I
was a Weyrleader. And you are quite lovely... " He smiled at her.
"But yes, I would have returned home to my Devyn shortly after
winning." The smile broadened, showing the honest truth in those deep
blue eyes.
Slightly uncomfortable with the way he had let the talk go, he went
right on talking, changing the subject as fast as conversationally
possible.
"Tell me my lady... How are you settling in? I loved my time at
Dolphin Cove, but originally Impressed here, at Dragonsfall. So, for
me, the sharp change in weather was not so hard. But I loved the
people at Dolphin Cove.... " Memories of faces of special ones shown
briefly. "But how are you settling in at our lovely Weyr?"
Saibra add none of the sweetner to her klah, taking it strong and
dark, and sipping on it softly before bringing her eyes back up to the
Weyrlingmaster, "Dragonsfall is beautiful, of course, anyone can see
that. But," she hesitated before continuing, "I feel like I can be
honest with you, so I will be. I was born and raised by the seaside so
when I moved to Dolphin Cove the climate was very similar. I love the
sand and the sun. I love wearing shorts and tank tops and warm nights
out on the beach." There was a wistfulness to her voice.
"And I miss that. Very much. More than I thought I would, really." She
declined to go into the fact that she also felt as if she could not
quite be as liberal here as she had been at Dolphin Cove.
He was surprised, but pleased, at her open sharing with him,
especially after just meeting him. Though, he had to admit, chasing
her gold had felt like 'meeting' her, at least her dragon anyway.
He watched her with intensity, judging this new goldrider. Though,
one hoped, not unfairly. But for who she showed herself to be.
When he finally spoke, it was with a lilt of curiosity, but also
understanding. Meanwhile, he tried very manfully - and succeeding
partly - to erase the image she had implanted in his mind of shorts
and tank tops and humid nights on the beach.
"You can, absolutely, be honest with me Saibra. I have many vices,
but being untrustworthy is not one of them. Thankfully. " His smile
was sure, but also with that hint of self-depreciation he was so good
at.
"I understand.... I missed cold, crisp snowy mornings the same way.
Though... I have to admit ... beaches were wonderful. I grew used to
the heat and sun very quickly. I did not like the hurricanes so
much, but here we've got blizzards in place of hurricanes. Hasaarth
still complains, when he remembers, that the sun is not quite as hot
here as it was there. Though he was Hatched here, so it feels like
home to him, too."
He was raised to be courteous and respectful to women, and he clearly
saw one in distress, though mild. He could no more stop the next
words than he could stop being a jealous crybaby who needed to man up
with his weyrmate.
"If you ever feel the need, Hasaarth and I would be glad to show you a
few lovely places where there is sand and warmth. We learned many
growing up here in the need to get away from snow and cold. " He
meant nothing untoward, but felt the same need to make her feel
welcome that he would any goldrider that came to be their Queen.
He added with a flippant wink, "And you know your...person... would be
safe with us, as we are taken. Well, me at least. Hasaarth says that
he can make no promises about your lovely gold."
"Ah, you are assuming that I wanted my... person... to be safe."
Saibra grinned charmingly, returning the Weyrlingmaster's wink with a
saucy one of her own, "Chioneth, I am sure, will enjoy his attention.
She tends to enjoy any bronze that will give her his attention."
**Not so different from her rider.** Saibra thought.
"Right now _any_ beach sounds divine, and I hope you are not the faint
of heart when it come to nudity either. I have no qualms about showing
skin and nearly gave G'nir a heart-attack when he swung by my weyr the
other night to drop some things off. Apparently I should have put on a
robe but I thought I could enjoy a pair of shorts in the sanctity of
my own weyr." She shook her head, still perplexed by the man that was
her Weyrleader.
J'darin grinned, but shook his head. She was dangerously charming,
this one, but he was devoted to his weyrmate. Hopefully she was
devoted to him too...
It was nice to be appreciated, though, and she obviously appreciated him.
The grin turned into a chuckle at the mention of G'nir. "Hmmm... I
suspected our Weyrleader to be made of stronger stuff than to object
to a beautiful woman half-dressed. " He had to be careful of her
other comment, dangerous lady indeed.
"Faint of heart is not what I would call me, although my weyrmate
might disagree after... some of the things that I deal with as
Weyrlingmaster. Or don't deal well with, as the case may be." He
paused to master those emotions, then went on. "However, in the face
of that kind of emotion, a naked woman on a beach holds little concern
for me. Other than as something lovely to see, of course. The love
of my weyrmate protects my eyes, you see."
He found himself liking their new Weyrwoman and smiled at her.
"Whenever you like, I would be happy to show you around."
Saibra found it cute the way the man kept throwing up the word
'weyrmate' as if to help shield any possible intentions that she might
have toward him. It did little to deter the Weyrwoman, however, and
she returned his smile, her eyes meeting his, "Be listening for the
word from Chioneth then."
J'darin smiled back, thinking idly to himself, what will Saibra say
when I show up with Devyn? He was going to ask his weyrmate to come
along.
In typical bronzerider, more specifically, male, blindess, he had no
idea of the issues that this would create. It seemed simple to him.
Take a friend out with his weyrmate.
Right?
