Saibra

Saibra wondered if the Weyrlingmaster was ever going to involve her in
the case of the violent green dragonet. She had heard stories of what
happened to the man's arm and Chioneth had witnessed a scene near the
barracks that made Saibra's ire flash. She would have no rogue dragons
in her Weyr. Chioneth would make them fall into place, and Saibra had
no problem with letting her Queen do that. Ninaine and her green were
a danger to themselves and others and Saibra would not tolerate it.

**Call him to my office. Now.**

}:Hasaarth, your rider should report to the Weyrwoman's office
immediately.:{ Chioneth spoke to the bronze, authority ringing in her
voice.

"No, no! Like this!" He took a sack from a weyrling and showed the
correct way to toss it, using his entire body as force but arms to
angle and follow through.

Right in the middle, Hasaarth passed on Chioneth's message, sounding
quite sheepish for a bronze.

}:You are ordered to see Chioneth's. Perhaps she wants to go to the
warm place now? You should go, the queen has said it.:{ He clearly
had felt the authority, and he also was very fond of Chioneth. He
remembered she had almost chosen him and went out of his way to be
nice to their new queen.

}:Only you are asked but I want to see Chioneth. Perhaps I will go
see her while you see her rider.:{

**Hasaarth! Stop flirting and call one of the assistants to finish
this class. **

J'darin dusted his hands off, excused himself as soon as his assistant
arrived, and took himself off on foot to Saibra's office.

When he arrived about half a candlemark later, he was still slightly
sooty on his hands, but his face and tunic were at least presentable.
He had paused to throw some water on his face.

He knocked on the door to her office, wondering what in the world
would cause their new Senior Weyrwoman to send for him in the middle
of classes and in such a way as to make Hasaarth get him right away.
Were they in trouble? Had she decided she didn't want _him_ training
Chioneth's Hatchlings when they came?

Maybe it was something simple like Candidates?

"Weyrwoman, it is J'darin." He added, unnecessarily. She would know
it was him at her door.

"J'darin come in and have a seat." Saibra said, her voice far from the
teasing, flirting one she had used on the Weyrlingmaster when they
first met. She studied the man for a moment before launching into the
reason she had called him, "I want to discuss Ninaine and Luneth, and
with their behavior I am afraid it could not wait until after your
classes. I have waited and watched to see if you would handle the
situation and I am disappointed to say that you have not."

She readjusted in her chair, "Would you care to tell me why Hasaarth
has not brought Luneth to obedience?" Dragons did not disobey their
riders or superior dragons and that was just the way of it. Saibra
would tolerate nothing else at Dragonsfall.

The bronzerider was taken aback by the difference between this woman
and the one who had flirted with him so skillfully not too long ago.

His back straightened and he took on his 'report to the Weyrleaders'
look and voice.

He was annoyed at her inference that he was not handling the
situation. She had no idea what it was like to look at this young
pair and realize he was doing his best but terrified it wasn't
working.

"With all due respect Weyrwoman, do you think its as easy as saying
"do it" and they do it? We have done nothing but try. Luneth is
petrified of Hasaarth and when he exerts his will, she obeys. I
thought it better that Ninaine learn to control her _own_ dragon than
to have my bronze doing it all the time."

"That has not happened as fast as I was hoping, but there has been
_some_ improvement. " the indignation that she was "interfering" in
managing the Weyrlings when it was his job was very apparent.

"MIght I suggest you come and see for yourself before you brand me a
failure?" His eyes narrowed and he raised his arm. The scratches
were healed but scars showed. They were light, but they were there.

"I have paid dearly for the care I am taking with this young woman."
He let his frustration with his own lack of success show to her
briefly. "Please believe me when I say we have done what I think is
best for her, her dragon, and the Weyr. But I've never had one like
this. Never."

"If you have a better idea, my Lady, spit it out."

Saibra's eyes flashed and she snapped, "I _do_ have a better idea! It
is called grow a spine, Weyrlingmaster, and bring your Weyrlings into
order! I would gladly leave them to your care and never bother you but
when an entire Weyr is looking at you and at this little girl and
wondering what the problem is then either I or G'nir have to step in!
It just happens to be me this time because if you and Hasaarth do not
get that vicious little dragonet under control then Chioneth _will_.

I don't care if you have to give that girl latrine duty every night
for the next Turn- she WILL start controlling her dragon! No coddling!
She's a threat to herself, to other dragons, and to future wingmates.
If you had put your foot down to begin with you probably wouldn't have
that nasty wound on your arm! If her dragon is terrified of Hasaarth
then _good_ use it to your advantage!"

She was suddenly very glad that it has been Nirreth who had flown
Chioneth and had made G'nir Weyrleader. Saibra enjoyed having fun,
flirting, and lounging around half-naked but she believed in the
rules, and by Faranth, they _would_ be followed! It was also becoming
more abundantly clear to Saibra that the last Weyrwoman had been
nothing more than a trophy on a pedestal with no real interaction or
involvement with the Weyrfolk or dragonriders. Well, for better or
worse they would find out that Saibra was _nothing_ like that.

J'darin stood to his feet and both hands made a loud 'clap' on her desk.

"Grow a SPINE? Are you serious? Listen my fine Lady. You know NOTHING
about training Weyrlings and have no idea what kind of damage we could
do by forcing her to obey all the time. What happens when she needs
to control her own dragon and hasn't learned to do it because someone
else has always done it for her? What happens when we create an
angrier dragon because we do always force her and she lashes out at
another one and they both go /between/? What then?"

He added, spitefully. "Its alot easier to force someone to obey than
to teach them the _right_ way. ANYONE can force someone if they have
a dragon to back them up."

"We have pushed them and pushed them and I DO force her when there is
no other choice. There HAS been progress. This way, you will get a
fit addition to the fighting wings who is not dangerous. If not, you
will get a sullen, rebellious dragon who's Wingleader will have to
constantly look out for the pair. Or, you will not get an addition to
the fighting Wings at all because I won't let her graduate until its
SAFE."

He met her fiery gaze with his own.

"Are you worried about the safety of the other riders or are you
worried about how things look? Because it sounds like to me you are
more worried about how this LOOKS than the safety of a lonely young
girl and her dragon. "

He crossed his arms.

"It is my job to train them as I see fit. But by all means, if you
think you can do a better job, DO IT. I would be happy to spend more
time with my weyrmate instead of putting up with a goldrider who cares
more about what people think than what is the right thing."

Saibra's tone was lethal, "Weyrlingmaster, you will sit down and mind
your manners while you are in my office." There was an accompanying,
authoritative roar from Chioneth. She stood, drawing herself to her
full height as she placed her hands down upon her desk as well, her
blue eyes hard, "As a goldrider for twenty-one Turns I can assure you
that I _do_ have experience with Weyrlings. Do your job and get her
under control. Immediately. You are dismissed. Get out of my office."

Too mad to trust a single word that came out of his mouth, he offered
her no respect. He stood there for a full second, meeting her hard
eyed gaze with one of his own. The blue eyes were drowning dark
black, nearly choking in anger. After a second, he just turned his
back on her.

She did not scare him. G'nir would have to be the one to offer him
any reaction; she technically had no authority other than what her
queen had over his bronze.
