It was hard to miss Elleth near the water. She was quite a sight,
after all. Chaneth raised his head and let out a pleased sound when he
saw her.

**Alright, we'll go over there,** L'pin said with a laugh.

He walked towards Meledei, waving a hand. "Hello there!"

Sometimes one just had to get out of the Weyr, even if one had work to
do. Meledei always had work to do. If she ever had a day where there
was no work for her, it was probably because she was dead. The call
of voice forced her attention away from her documents and to the
person from whom it had originated. A smile sprang to her face and
she raised her hand in a return wave. "Hey there. How goes it?"

"I'm looking forward to the Hatching," he said. "It's quite an
interesting group of candidates this time around. How have you been,
with the changes?"

"You mean with the changes in regards to goldriders?" There had been
many changes as of late, and Meledei didn't really feel like
discussing her love life, but she had no problem discussing Weyr wide
changes.

L'pin nodded. "Saibra leaving is quite the change, though I'm happy
for her becoming Weyrwoman in her own right."

"Yeah. It's a good opportunity and I really can't blame her for jumping
on it." Meledei could say for certain she wouldn't at this point in

her life,
but then again, things might change when she was older. "But we've got
another
who's joined us already so at least the work load won't increase." Not
that it
wasn't heavy already, but that was the life of a goldrider.

"Are you two getting along?" L'pin knew gold riders could be touchy in
their interactions. The current group had worked well
together...destablizing that would be a pity.

"She seems nice and I haven't had any problems with her." If
anything, Kapera seemed like she was pretty easy to get along with,
though Meledei knew they hadn't known each other for that long. Who
knew what time would tell in regards to their relationship? She did
hope that it would remain positive. "Have you met her?"

"Not yet, I've been busy taking the Third's duties back on. I need to
soon, though." It was good to know the goldriders before their dragons
clutched.

"I think you'll like her. How are you settling in to things?" Change
was everywhere for everyone. Sometimes people's lives settled but
change couldn't be avoided for ever. At least for L'pin, it was a
positive one.

"Since the last class is graduating now, there's a bit of a breather.
I'm spending some time with the candidates. There's one in particular
I'm giving lessons in music too, a nice holdergirl."

"Oh really? Which one?" Meledei straightened a little and flipped
her ponytail back behind her shoulder as she eyed the bluerider. A
nice holdergirl, eh? She wondered if there was more than simply
lessons going on.

"Alina. I don't know if you've met her?" Not all dragonriders kept up
with the candidates, but he thought the goldriders might. "She wanted
to learn to play the pipes and gitar."

"I think I know who she is though I've not officially met her." Meledei
kept up
with the candidates though she didn't always go and introduce herself.
Perhaps she
should make an effort to do that. "So, is it just a working relationship
or is
there more there?"

"Oh! It's just a mentorship. Working with her reminds me of teaching my
son," he added.

He was silent for a moment, before he continued. He trusted Meledei not to
talk. "Though, there is someone I've a bit of interest in courting."

"Oh really?" That did pique her interest and she studied him as her
fingers ran
through combined tresses of her hair. "Do tell."

"I'm becoming rather fond of our Headwoman. I don't want to scare her off,
so I plan on being gentle - dinner and a statement of intent, let her make
a choice if she likes me."

"Awww, really? That's so sweet! And I love courtship. That's the
way to do it." Time spent with each other, just to get to know each
other better, to see if you could love this person and stay with him
for a lifetime. Rushing into things rarely did anyone any good -
though Meledei had to admit her parents had taken a faster pace. From
what she understood, though, her mother had insisted they take some
time before Weyrmating. "I bet she won't be able to resist you."

He smiled. "Thank you for your confidence. I hope you're correct. It's
been awhile since I've had any feelings for someone, so I hope I've
still got the right ways of working on it."

"I'm sure you'll be fine." Meledei smiled a little. Some people could be
romantic.
Some people understood taking things one step at a time. And others
didn't.
Meledei sighed, then pushed herself to her feet. "Well, as lovely as it
is to just
linger here, I should probably get back. Elleth plans to stay though if
you guys
want to play with her."

Chaneth made a querying noise at the gold dragon. He did enjoy playing
with dragons that weren't weyrlings.

"I think we'd enjoy that. Thank you for talking with me, Meledei - it's
good to know you're doing well."

"Nice catching up with you too, L'pin. I'll see you around." She flicked
a playful
salute to him, then turned and aimed for the Weyr proper.
