D'hol

Jeyme knew that she was a blubbering mess, and a part of her realized
that she probably shouldn't be crying _so_ much, but it was as if she
had no control over her emotions or tears. She didn't know if it was
the pregnancy or not but she was certainly going to blame it on those
hormones!

When the door to the weyr opened and D'hol came in, the greenrider
sucked in her bottom lip and tried to quell the tears, only there was
no real way to hide her puffy eyes and red cheeks.

At first D'hol didn't look at Jeyme's face. He gave a soft grunt of
greeting, kicked off his boots and ran a hand through his hair. He
headed straight for the klah pot, checked it, sighed and then filled
it with water. "Jeyme, where is the..." he turned to look at her and
blinked. One brow arched and he put the pot down. "Okay...what did I
do?"

Jeyme tried her best to reign in the tears but ended up making gulping
sounds instead, "It...was...Talryne! She... She..." There was more
tears and head shaking, "She doesn't want to be my friend anymore!"

D'hol blinked slowly, resisting the urge to ask if Jeyme had suddenly
reverted in age about ten Turns. He did want to live to the next day.
"Okay." He spoke slowly in the tone of someone being careful not to
upset a person suffering from insanity. "Why not?"

More sniffling ensued and Jeyme used the palms of both hands to scrub
at her eyes, "Because she says _I'm_ hurting N'vanik and that she
couldn't look at me and not see his hurt!" This time the cry came out
more as a wail, and Quinneth edged a little closer, her eye appearing
as she crooned sympathetically.

Eyes narrowed and D'hol shook his head. "Well...that's just bloody
well stupid. " This is not what he had thought he would come home to
this evening. "Then you don't need her as a friend."

Jeyme froze, turning large, shimmer eyes to D'hol, "But she was the
only friend I had!" She couldn't even name one other person at the
Weyr that she could call a friend.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, D'hol groaned and sat down. "I'm
sorry to hear that, but what do you expect me to do about it? You can
go out anytime you want and make friends, Jeyme."

The greenrider sighed and dabbed at her eyes with one of her
embroidered hankies, "Don't you understand what it is like to be torn
in the middle? I could never go against you and involve N'vanik when
you specifically asked me not to, but to Talryne the decision is
_mine_ and so I am the evil villain for accommodating my weyrmate....
I just don't like having anyone mad at me."

"I don't even know how to make friends. I ran into Tal by accident."
Jeyme huffed.

"So she'd rather you go against your weyrmate to keep N'vanik happy?
She's not even _his_ weyrmate. Bloody well selfish." He gave a
answering huff. "You can't make everyone happy, Jeyme, so don't even
attempt it." He leaned back on the couch and rubbed his temple. "So go
run into someone else. There's scores of women, Jeyme. Surely you have
something in common with a few of them. You fly in a good wing and
know how to make conversation. Have you tried to befriend anyone
else?"

"Yes," Jeyme said defensively, "I tried with Meledei but...." She
shrugged, "That never went anywhere." And then she thought, "Well, I
guess I am sort of... good acquaintances with Kapera." They had at
least had a couple of good conversations together but she didn't see
them knitting booties together any time soon.

"So, you want to find a way to stay friends with Talryne."

"I'm not looking for solutions, D'hol." She said softly, "Sometimes a
pregnant woman just needs to cry."

He wanted to throw his hands up. Why did she tell him if she didn't
want a way to fix it? Exasperated, he stared at her. "Then come over
here, sit in my lap and you can cry."

Jeyme instantly crawled over into the bronzerider's lap and tucked her
face against the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent with a sigh,
"Oh, and I accidentally destroyed your favorite tunic." She whispered
against his skin.

"What?" He craned his head back to eye her. He huffed and patted her
hip. "I don't even want to know."

"Good, because it's a long story." Jeyme said in agreement.
