Cyradis

Cyradis

After paying a visit to one queen, J'nus knew that he was due a visit
with another. Cyradis was apparently quite pregnant, a bit of news
which he digested with interest. **Kopth, see
if Panitath's rider is accepting visitors.**

}:Mine will see yours in our Weyr,:{ Panitath answered after a few moments.

}:Mine will be there shortly, lovely queen,:{ Kopth replied.

Which meant that only a few minutes later J'nus was knocking on
Cyradis' door.

"Come in," Cyradis called expecting the new bronzerider to visit her
she'd propped herself up on the couch with her feet elevated.

"Hello?" J'nus entered, quickly spotting the Weyrwoman on her couch
and doing his best not to look too closely at her weyr. She was
weyrmated with children, and it showed - there were toys on the floor,
a stack of hides on the table, and a men's tunic tossed over the back
of a wooden chair. He quickly refocused his attention on Cyradis and
bowed. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Weyrwoman. I'm J'nus of bronze
Kopth, recently transferred from Dragonsfall Weyr."

"Welcome J'nus," she nodded. "Why don't you have a seat?" She
indicated the chair across from her. Craning her neck to look up at
him would get tiring after a bit. "How long were you at Dragonsfall?"

"Thank you." The bronzerider settled himself where she'd pointed and
leaned comfortably into the chair's embrace. "I was at there
for... oh, over twenty turns? A long time. I felt I was due a change."

"I couldn't agree with you more," she smiled. "Welcome to warm skies
and sunny beaches."

"So far, I'm wondering why I didn't transferred sooner." J'nus shook
his head. "It seems like a daft choice. But there you have it."

Since she was very familiar with the way N'vanik worked. She was
certain he'd already done an interview of the rider and therefore she
didn't feel the need to pry into his reasons for leaving at this time.
"Did you bring any family with you?"

The bronzerider shook his head. "It's just me and Kopth. I hear you,
on the other hand, have quite the family already-- with another on the
way. Congratulations."

"Yes," she grinned. "This will be my fifth and K'deren's second
natural child. My two girls are here with us, also his daughter and
the son of his previous weyrmate. So we have quite the weyrfull at
times. My two older boys are with their father in the north." She
didn't want to go into the whole history of Vonalie's death. That
was common enough among weyrfolk to come as no surprise to the
obviously experienced bronzerider.

"A weyrfull indeed! But not so bad. I grew up in a Trader caravan. At
least in a weyr - and a goldrider's weyr - there's plenty of space."
Which perhaps explained his penchant for collecting things that
collected dust - growing up, he'd had half a shelf to call his own.

She chuckled thinking that she rather liked this new bronzerider. "A
Trader caravan huh," she smiled. "I grew up at the Vintner Hall before
the earthquake took it." She leaned forward and whispered behind her
hand as though there were people to overhear them. "I still make some
special brews and distillations."

He raised his eyebrows. "Aren't you full of surprises. What's your specialty?"

"Well," she said with a self deprecating smile. "Back then I wasn't
allowed to actually study but I picked up a few things around the
dinner table. I enjoy making liquors. I have a little stock of a
citron one. I'll see you get a bottle."

J'nus blinked, taken aback and a little touched. A bottle from the
Weyrwoman's private stash wasn't the sort of welcome he was expecting,
and he made a mental note to be sure to try it sooner rather than
later. He didn't drink much anymore. "I'm honoured, and I'll look
forward to it. Thank you. I wish I had a skill to trade in return...
although, I did tell Kapera that I'd rig her a fan, if I'm able. If I
can, I'll make one for you too. I'd forgotten how _hot_ it is in the
tropics."

"Ohh," her eyes widened. "You're a technician? That could come in _very_ handy."

He shook his head. "I just like figuring out how things work. I never
apprenticed."

"Ah," she smiled and winked. "Still a handy man to have around."

"Some think so." He shrugged. And some did not, namely the
Weyrleadership at Dragonsfall Weyr. But that was left behind him.
"Don't be too hasty. I haven't actually built a fan yet."

"That's ok," her smile widened. "I haven't actually installed electricity yet."

He made a mental note to get on the fan project sooner rather than
later. "Kapera mentioned that you were intending to wire the Weyr
sooner rather than later?"

"Yes," she nodded. "We need a more senior technician to really oversee
the project. They have to expand the hydropower or maybe install a
geothermal generator to give us the resources they need before we can
really begin upgrading the Weyr proper. They use words like
infrastructure and architecture."

"Just wait until they _really_ get started." The bronzerider shook his
head. "I once went drinking with a couple of technicians. Two beers in
and I understood one word in five. It's gibberish."

Cyradis laughed at that. "I can see we're going to enjoy each other's company."
