Tavia

Tavia

J'kri floated for some time, mind hazy and limbs pleasantly heavy.
Then disorientation hit him. He wasn't in his weyr, or Paetri's.
Opening his eyes, he found an unfamiliar woman next to him. A second
later his memory caught up and he remembered the flight.

Before she opened her eyes Tavia smiled. Sawauth's mind glowed with
happiness as she always did after a flight. No matter that she'd been
angling to place herself to be caught by bronze she was more than
happy with the blue by the time their fall had finished. The
greenrider stretched and turned to head to look at the very young man
with his arms wrapped around her.

"Hello," she smiled.

"Hi." He returned the smile, still riding on the emotions of the
flight. "I don't think we've met. I'm J'kri, of blue Rademerth."

"I'm Tavia," she smiled in reply, "of green Sawauth." At least he'd
learned his lessons well. "Is this the first time you've caught?"

"Second." If he thought too much about the first... his grief was
lurking, like a fish in deep water.

There wasn't as much joy there as she would have expected and she
rolled over closer to him. "Are you alright?"

"I'm sorry." He swallowed, throat going tight. "My friend -- my
lover-- died in the last Fall."

"I'm so sorry," she said with genuine feeling and gathered him to her
like she would have any patient in the infirmary no matter that they
were both naked.

Though they were virtually strangers, he cuddled against her with
ease, accepting the comfort she gave. "Thank you." After a moment he
pulled back to look at her. "And thank you for the flight. It _was_
good. I really needed it." Being one with Rademerth made everything
else disappear, and winning meant they were both happy. The blue was
currently sound asleep, waves of pride and contentment rolling off
him.

"Well, I think Sawauth chose the right dragon for her flight today,"
she smiled. "She's very happy with her flight

"And how about you?" The grief crept closer to the surface, but
dragonlust was stirring in him as well. He knew which one he wanted to
win. J'kri trailed his fingers along her arm. "Are you happy?"

"Yes," she smiled. She would have said nothing else to him under the
circumstances. No matter what else might have crossed her mind earlier
she wasn't going to let this young man walk out of his second win with
a sour taste in his mouth. So she wiggled suggestively in just the way
that used to drive U'kaiah over the edge encouraging him wordlessly
with her body.

"Mmm." A smile played on his lips and he rolled on top of her. "I'm
glad." He could chase the sadness away again for a little while. And
Tavia seemed nice. He should talk to her later when his head was
clear. J'kri kissed her, more demanding than he intended, but it felt
good, too.

She kissed him back and just let the flightlust flow through her as
she wrapped her legs around him.

The warm, floaty feeling made him smile. "Thank you. Again." He kissed
her softly.

"No need to thank me," she stretched and yawned like a feline after
kissing him back. "It was very enjoyable."

"Good." He wished he could stay here all day and not have to face his
sadness. As soon as he left this room, reality would come crashing
down. **I have to find a way to miss him without it hurting so much.**

She didn't know quite what the young man was fighting but whatever it
was at least she'd been able to give him a few moments of joy. That
was something anyway. She swung her legs off the bed and picked up her
clothing tossing on her tunic and tying her trousers.

"I need a drink," she smiled.

"Me, too." He made himself get up, forced a smile. "Maybe we could
have lunch sometime?" He realized she might take that the wrong way.
"I like meeting new people and while this is great, it doesn't lend
itself to ... conversation."

She chuckled and slipped her shoes on. "Sure, why not. Everyone needs
friends right?"

He tugged on his trousers, feeling a spark of happiness. "And you can
never have enough." Maybe that was the way to get through, to surround
himself with friends so that if one died, he had others to turn to. To
lean on. He'd be a complete mess without Paetri and R'axe. R'axe... he
hoped he hadn't screwed that up.

"Right," she smiled. Then she walked around the bed to him and gave
him one more kiss. "Thanks for the nice flight," she said.
