Characters: D'ale, K'ran
Description: K'ran lets D'ale know that he's Cyan's new Wingleader.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 6 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: G'nir, Kenza, U'kaiah, Yanley
The meeting with G'nir had not at all been what K'ran expected, and he was
still dealing with the idea. He reached out to his bronze and asked
Rogueth to ask if D'ale was free. **Tell him to meet me in...the wing's
lounge.** he thought after a moment.
}:Torerath, could your rider meet my rider in the wing lounge?:{
D'ale paused and looked up from the hide he'd been working on and put
down his stylus. **Of course,** he answered.
}:Mine will be right there:{ the brown answered.
Only a few moments later D'ale walked into the lounge, noting as he
arrived that there were no other riders present. "K'ran," he smiled.
"How's it going?" the other man asked. "I called down for klah," he added.
"Good," he said and ran a hand through his dark hair as he sat down.
"As good as can be expected with both U'kaiah and Kanza stepping
down,"
"It's going to be quite the change for Cyan," K'ran agreed. Kenza's
stability and ability to motivate some of the recalcitrant ones would
surely be missed.
The drudge came in bearing klah and a few finger foods, then left.
"G'nir offered me the Wingleader's knots," K'ran said after he'd poured
himself a cup. "Are you okay with that?"
Down deep where it didn't show, D'ale had been hoping for the nod
himself but it was a fact that dragons obeyed bronze more quickly than
brown. "It is and I'm fine with it," he smiled. "I'll be happy to
share the work, that much is certain. How are you feeling about it."
D'ale lifted an eyebrow.
"At Dolphin Cove, I knew a brownriding Wingsecond who deserved to be
Wingleader. But some people are tradition-bound." K'ran hoped that
statement would convey the strength of his faith in D'ale without
outwardly criticizing G'nir.
"A little nervous," he admitted. "I've been Wingsecond for a bit before,
but this is a big jump. Fortunately I have you to rely on."
"I'll be right there with you," D'ale nodded with a smile. He was
nothing if not adaptable.
"And hopefully we'll have someone to replace Kenza as a solid Wingthird
soon."
"Yes," he nodded. "Or she'll deal with her issues and come back to
us." There was always that hope in his heart. "Well," he said rubbing
his hands together. "Did you want to move into U'kaiah's office or
select something else?"
"I guess I should do that." It'll be odd to be the one having an office,
he thought. "Set up office, call a wing meeting, anything else you can
think of?"
"Get a drink," D'ale smiled at the younger man, "Throw a party?"
That made sense. "Tell my family," he added after a moment.
"Yes," D,ale agreed, "but I think we should start with the drink."
"Sounds good to me." He must sound like a young boy, still giddy with
excitement and nerves. "I do appreciate it."
"I know the perfect place," he said and stood. "The tavern at the
Vintner Hall. If we're lucky they'll even have some entertainment."
"Excellent." And he could send a drudge to fetch his brother. "Do you go
there often?"
"Yes, well." D'ale grinned. "I used to, but then I finally persuaded
Lady Yanley to come to the Weyr as my weyrmate. So not as much
anymore."
"You're very happy with her, aren't you?" K'ran envied the closeness of a
weyrmate bond, but he'd never been good enough with women to establish a
deep relationship. Except for the one he'd tried at the Cove.
"Very," D'ale smiled. He couldn't really even describe how much the
lovely lady filled his thoughts even now that he came home to her
every night. D'ale was a man in love.
"That's wonderful," he said, and meant it.
"Let's go," D'ale rose and clapped the younger man on the shoulder.
D'ale was a team player and if nothing else would support his new
wingleader in any way he needed.
