There was a soft knock at the door that K'deren and Cyradis shared. K'deren
gently lay his sleeping son in the hastily made up crib, before going to see
who was there.

He opened the door a crack, to see his father stood there. "Can I come in?"
he asked. "I'd like to congratulate you properly, and take a peep at the
baby, if that's okay with you both."

"Just let me check," K'deren told his father, "Cyradis was trying to get a
nap."

Walking over to their sleeping area, he popped his head around to check,
"You awake?"

"Yes," she said opening her eyes from her light doze. Just the few
minutes had done wonders for her. And she was expecting visitors,
especially with the Weyr full of people from all over the southern
continent. She wouldn't try to get out of bed but she lifted her
pillows and tried to sit up.

"Here," K'deren passed her another pillow. "It's my father, he wants to
meet his new grandson. Is that okay with you?"

"Sure," she smiled. "Bring them in."

K'deren went to let his father in, and picked up his son, who was now awake
thanks to the disturbance. But fortunately he was not showing how well his
lungs were developed yet.

Ciara's head peeked over K'sedel's shoulder. "Me too," she smiled and
then dodged around the big guy to coo over the bundle in K'deren's
arms. "Oh he's so beautiful," she grinned up at the brownrider. "How's
Cyradis?"

"She's tired, but happy. Like me," K'deren said as he returned the smile
from his father's weyrmate. "And Kendran here."

"Oh I love that name," Ciara smiled. But then she moved out of
K'sedel's way to go see Cyradis. "He's so beautiful," she smiled at the
goldrider.

"Thanks," Cyradis smiled back. "Thanks for coming by."

"We wouldn't miss it," she grinned. "In fact we didn't miss it," she
chuckled. It had been rather obvious what was happening toward the end
of the hatching and they'd been seated nearby.

"Yes, well, that wasn't supposed to happen," Cyradis flushed a bit
embarrassed.

"We both thought that there was another sevenday or so to go," K'deren
said. "But someone clearly had other plans for today."

Ciara chuckled and shared a smile with K'sedel. Then she leaned over
to Cyradis. And in a loud whisper told her. "We think I'm pregnant
again."

"Congratulations," said K'deren. It wasn't totally surprising, given that it
didn't take much to see how his father and Ciara acted around each other.

Ciara smiled up at K'deren from where she sat on the side of Cyradis'
bed. "Think I could hold him?"

"Someone wants some practice," joked K'sedel, as he watched the babe be
gently passed to his weyrmate.

Ciara grinned up at K'sedel. "Very funny." She looked down into the
tiny perfect face. "He really is beautiful," she turned her grin on
K'deren. "Well done."

"I think it's my weyrmate who did the hard work though," K'deren looked to
Cyradis then, love and pleasure evident in his glance.

She looked back at him with equal tenderness. Then she reached for his
hand with a smile. There was one thing she knew for certain. Next to
Panitath, K'deren was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
"Oh I don't know," she smiled. "You've been caring for two rather
large dragons for months. I'd call that work."

"For some reason though, I had plenty of eager volunteers when it came to
Panitath," came the reply.

"And she appreciated the attention," Cyradis smiled.

Ciara stood and carefully offered her armful to his grandfather. "K'es?"

Gently easing a hand in place to support the little one's neck, followed by
another to support his body, K'sedel took the babe and held him . "I'd
forgotten how small they are at first," he said. "But I bet he's got a good
set of lungs on him."

Ciara smiled at the sight and winked at Cyradis. "I distinctly
remember him announcing his arrival louder than any of the dragonets."

"And I'm sure we'll know about it tonight, and for the next turn or so,"
joked K'deren. "If he doesn't wake us up, somebody else will when they come
and tell us he's crying, or wet, or any of the myriad other things that
babies need in the night."

"You can sit with him as long as you want, Grandpa," Cyradis smiled at
K'sedel. "I think by now you have the skills." The Weyrleader of
Riverbluff was nothing if not experienced with children. She wasn't
quite sure how many he had because she kept running into new ones or
at least ones she hadn't yet met.

"Well once he needs changing, he's going back to his father, but until
then," K'sedel smiled, it was hard not to with his grandson in his arms.
