Types of Pets

Runners

• Runners are more commonly owned among Holders and other non-dragonriders who have the time and space to board and care for a runnerbeast. They're used for transportion for those without dragons and they're used for farm work.
• Dragonriders may not have a runner as a pet. Runners are kept in the stables at the Weyr for pleasure riding, but a dragonrider doesn't have time to maintain a personal runner. Nor does the Weyr have the staff to care for the number of runners that individual ownership contributes to.

Felines/Canines

• Canines and Felines would be more commonly owned by persona types that have the space and time for such pets. Dragonriders may have a feline or a canine but please be realistic with a dragonrider's time and space constraints. Non-ranking dragonriders have rather small weyrs.

Firelizards

Firelizard Names

Firelizard ('flit') names cannot end in -th and should not duplicate a name from any book or other copyrighted material.

Mating Flights

Gold

• Gold firelizard mating flights should be (but aren't required to be) posted about, as well as the clutching, and the eggs must be given out to club members' personas. The winner is the choice of the owner, keeping in mind that a gold must be flown by a bronze if the owner hopes for a gold egg in the clutch.

• Once a gold firelizard's flight has been posted, the owner emails the local Level One with tentative clutch numbers and colors (Example: 10 eggs - 1 gold, 2 bronze, 2 brown, 2 blue, 3 green).

• The final list of who is to receive the eggs is left up to the owner of the gold who Clutched them, however, they should notify the L1 of their intention. If they are planning to give someone a metallic egg (ie. gold or bronze) they must notify the Council so they can make sure they are within their metallic pet limit.

Green

• Green firelizard mating flights do not have to be posted, and the winner is the choice of the owner.

• Green firelizards do not clutch in Triad Weyrs. They can't remember where they clutched their eggs for their owners to find.

Effects on Humans

• A firelizard's mating flight is not nearly as powerful or overwhelming as a dragon mating flight. Though the participants are aware of what is happening, they are not one with their flit. They can go about life as normal with only a relatively small reaction that can either be embraced or ignored by the participants. The winners of the flights do not fall into bed with each other, nor do the participants have a powerful need to relieve their lust.

• Some may point to the mating flight between Menolly and Sebell's flits, but keep in mind that they had feelings for each other before the flight, and they were both in a position where they could indulge in the feeling (alone on a boat with no one around to see them).

• Also, for those who do chose to embrace the effects of the flight, keep in mind they are not granted the same allowances as a dragon's flight. Hold and Hall still have rules of propriety, and even Weyrs would not excuse a person from duty just because they had a firelizard rise to mate. Keep in mind that since the owner's participation in a firelizard flight is completely voluntary, the excuse "But my firelizard rose to mate!" will not cut it. The owner will suffer any consequences their choice may bring.

Restrictions

• A member may not have more than one gold firelizard. These are minor rank, with a posting requirement of one post per month for the owner persona.
• Due to the fact that firelizards will mature much faster than their human lifemates, the minimum age requirement for flits is the same as that of dragons - twelve (12) turns of age at least.

Threadfall

Though flits have the physical capability to chew firestone and belch flame which was passed down to their larger cousins, firelizards cannot fight Thread along with the wings in the sky. They are much smaller, and therefore cannot reach the same heights as the dragons in their formations nor keep up with them in the sky.

Pet Number Restriction

Three per persona. No exceptions. A member may only have one gold flit.

Be logical with this limit. We don't want to see dragonriders with kittens, flits and canines trailing behind them. They wouldn't have time for it and it isn't logical.
