"Master D'kere?"
D'kere looked up, the soft voice breaking his concentration. The voice belonged to one of his Senior Weyrlings, a young holdbred girl with sable hair and blue eyes. She was one of the older Weyrlings, around eighteen if he remembered correctly from her file.
"Yasmene, come in." He set down his stylus and raised his arms over his head, stretching out the kink in his back that he hadn't realized had developed since he'd been staring over hides.
"Thank you, I hope I'm not interrupting," she said, seating herself in the chair across from him and sending a waft of what smelled like some sort of floral scent toward him. It was a rather pleasant smell, he decided.
"Of course not," he assured her. "What can I do for you?"
"Well, you know how in class we talked about...," her cheeks reddened a bit beneath the charming smatter of freckles her cheekbones bore. "Not going into our mating flights inexperienced well... I am... Inexperienced, that is."
"Ah," D'kere said. "Well, it's a good thing you came to me then. I can set you up with an experienced dragonrider who will help you become more comfortable before Isaroth rises." He had just secured Z'kai for A'nir, so he hated to bother the bluerider again. D'kere began scanning down the list of "mentors" that he had acquired since becoming a Weyrlingmaster's Second.
"Oh, that's just the thing, actually," the lovely blush stayed on her cheeks. "I already know who I would like."
D'kere looked up at her, a bit puzzled. "You do?" Then why was she here in his office?
Yasmene's eyes flew to her lap, where she twisted her hands together. "Yes, I was hoping that.... Well, that you might be the one to..."
The bronzerider's eyes widened marginally. "Oh." Well, he hadn't been expecting that. It wasn't as if D'kere had never helped a virgin Weyrling before, he had, but he hadn't slept with a woman outside of a flight since weyrmating to Talwynn. He really hadn't even had the desire to. "Isn't there maybe someone, one of your friends, a classmate, that you would like to ask?"
"No," Yasmene shook her head. "They're all just... Well, weyrbred, and I know you are too but the way they make it seem..." She shuddered before turning her eyes up to him. "I would just feel safe with you."
That was both humbling, to D'kere, and incredibly frightening. The protector side of his personality wanted to help Yasmene, and yet the other side of his personality, which oddly enough sounded like Talwynn punching him in the nose, did NOT want to help.
"Yasmene, I'll be honest with you, I don't know if I can." He saw the immediate disappointment, her blue eyes looking like crushed flax petals. "I will need to talk it over with my weyrmate."
"I see," she said quietly.
"If I can't I promise that I will find you someone very trustworthy, okay?" D'kere said, trying to soften the blow.
Yasmene nodded, disappointment flooding through her and prickling her eyes with tears. Her worst fear was that she would be rejected by D'kere. Why would someone like him, a man of the Weyr, a bronzerider, want to sleep with some little greenrider from a noname cothold?
"Thank you for your time, Weyrlingmaster," she murmured as she pushed to her feet, ready to flee back to her small weyr where she could cry. All of the boys she knew around the Weyr made sex sound so crass and degrading, the last thing she wanted to experience. She had surely thought that her dependable, and albeit handsome, teacher would help her.
D'kere watched Yasmene leave his office and the moment she did he slumped forehead, allowing his forehead to thump loudly onto his smoothly polished desk. "Ugh!!!"
}:You alright in there?:{ Kenirath asked with amusement coloring his tone.
**No,** D'kere answered back with a groan. If any other person had asked him, anyone, he would have said no and immediately gone to find them a mentor. And yet here he was, knowing that he was going to have to ask Talwynn how she felt about him helping Yasmene and dreading every second of his weyrmate's reaction.
}:Good luck with that,:{ Kenirath warned. }:Riveth has been extra proddy lately, near her rising time, I think.:{
"Oh, wonderful," D'kere said as he pushed to his feet. "I should dig my grave before I go speak to her, that will just make it easier on everyone."
Kenirath exhaled a huff of amusement at his rider's dry tone.
