Yasmeane

[You look... ] Yasmeane searched her memory for the word, [_grumpy_.]

X'eri, who was in the midst of chewing a large bubbly pie, narrowed
his blue eyes into slits.

[I'm fine,] he said with stiff hand gestures.

Yasmeane rolled her eyes. [Clearly.]

The bronzerider kept chewing aggressively, his eyes darting around the
Dining Cavern. Then, suddenly, as if on some hidden cue, X'eri stood
up so quickly that his chair fell over with a loud bang.

Yasmeane jumped at the explosive crack of the wooden chair. She
watched with big eyes as X'eri strode across the crowded Dining
Cavern, grabbed a brownrider up by the collar and smashed his fist
into the man's face.

Outside dragons roared.

Other riders made to part the two men, and by the time Yasmeane
reached X'eri he was sporting a bloody lip and a cut above his left
eye.

"I've got him." Yasmeane said, a steadying hand placed against X'eri's
chest. She had never seen X'eri angry before, well, aside from the
time he'd stood up for her to that holder while they were on Search.
Otherwise, nothing seemed to ever ruffle his feathers.

Fisting her hand into the front of his shirt, Yasmeane tugged X'eri
away from the brownrider who was being tended to by friends of his
own.

[Do you want to tell me what that was about?] They were sitting in
X'eri's weyr. Yasmeane had a cold cloth which she used to dab at
X'eri's split lip.

X'eri looked like a petulant child who'd gotten into a fight with
another weyrbrat in the creche.

[Not really, but I know you'll bug me until I do,] he signed.

Yasmeane barked out a laugh. How well they'd gotten to know each other
over the last Turn.

[I'm listening,] she said before stepping over into his small kitchen
area and putting a pot of klah on.

[My sister Eamalla became a Candidate, back when there was a gold egg
on the Sands. She's twenty. She doesn't have much time left for
Standing. Then she meets some brownrider, _C'rin_, that she thinks is
wonderful. Only, when she tells him she's pregnant he wants nothing to
do with her.] X'eri winced as his tongue snuck out to inspect the
split in his lip.

Yasmeane arched one dark blonde eyebrow. [You punched a fellow rider
in the face because your _twenty_ Turn old sister got pregnant. Don't
you think that's a little old for her to be 'taken advantage of'?]

X'eri cut his eyes at Yasmeane. [My sister could be one-hundred but if
a guy's a jerk to her I'm still going to punch him in the face.]

Pouring the hot klah into cups, she put two giant heaps of sweetner
into her mug before putting one tiny scoop into X'eri's cup. She
brought the drink over to him and once her hands were clear she said,
[It's sweet that you want to protect your sister.]

[But?]

[But don't you think she's going to be embarrassed when she hears what
you did? She's a grown woman, X'eri. She's a whole turn _older_ than
me!] Yasmeane pointed this information out with a lift of both
eyebrows.

[And didn't I punch a guy in the face for you too?] X'eri retorted.

A little smile tugged at her lips. [Okay, one point to you. But what
about C'rin? He's got the reputation of being a pretty nice guy. Did
you even talk to him about your sister before punching him in the
face?]

X'eri crossed his arms over his chest. [No.]

[Point for me.]

}:The Weyrwoman wants to see you. I'd like to give you some hope but
Chioneth is probably going to eat you. It was nice knowing you.:{
Kohath's mental voice was brimming with humor.

X'eri sighed, before relaying the message to Yasmeane with a quick
flourish of his hands.

[Good luck,] the greenrider signed back to him as she stood and left
with her cup of klah.

}:Should I bring a present to Chioneth? Do you think that would
help?:{ Kohath asked as he waited patiently on his ledge for X'eri.

X'eri considered that for a moment, but once glance at the Weyrwoman's
ledge told him that the senior queen was busy sunning with Aluneth.

**No, I'll just have to win Saibra over with my charm, I guess.**

Kohath made a longsuffering noise. }:You're doomed, then.:{
