U'kaiah sat surrounded by hides. Some of them were for pleasure, and some of them were for the wing. Just because he was out of action didn't mean that he could waste all his time just sitting around. He looked up, though when the curtain parted. Visitors were a better distraction than hidework any day!

"U'kaiah." Optham grinned seeing the work spread out in front of him. "A man of my own way, I see."

"Well, I can't just sit here forever and do nothing, no matter what you healers say," he replied with a teasing smile.

"Oh, certainly not forever." Optham kept his voice more serious, trying to be reassuring. He knew U'kaiah would be more worried than anyone about the possibilities of his situation. "Besides the boredom, how are you feeling today?" "Fine. I just can't wait to get back to my own weyr."
The nights were not so bad, but it was the days that just seemed to drag on, despite his few hours to walk around and get exercise.

"Good. Then I'm sure you'll welcome what I have to say." Optham smiled. Telling people they could leave always made his day a little better. "Based on your progress so far, we've decided you should be allowed to return to your weyr tomorrow."

"Really?" U'kaiah almost felt like jumping up and kissing the weyrhealer! "Optham, that _is_ welcome news!"

Optham grinned at his reaction. "I knew it would be.
However," he said, letting his smile fade, "this does not mean that you are free to go about your life as usual yet. I think it would be best if you would keep on a similar schedule as what we've been doing with you here for the next sevenday at least. As you are a grown adult, I feel that it is unnecessary to keep you under constant supervision like a child," Optham paused, thinking of how terrible some people could be as patients. "But know that if I get the slightest hint that you are working yourself any harder than that, I will be forced to keep you under such supervision. Is that understood?"

"Completely," U'kaiah nodded, about ready to agree to anything as long as he could sleep in his own bed again! "And then after the sevenday? Can I go back to my wing?"

"Somewhat," Optham replied carefully. "You will be allowed to start drilling with your wing again, but only half days. After we see about a sevenday or so of that problem-free, you'll be back in action."

"So, it just might be two seven days and I'm free and clear?" his patient asked hopefully.

"It just might be," Optham agreed with another smile.
"Has your healer mentioned anything about going to the Dolphin Hall to you?"

"Yes," U'kaiah replied. The very thought of having to go to the Dolphin Hall made the bronzerider feel uneasy. What if there was something they weren't telling him? "They said it was just a precaution..."

"Yes, it is. And I don't want you to be worried about it. From all that we can tell, you seem to be doing just fine. There's still a small chance, however, that we missed something that only the dolphins will be able to pick up on. I've made an appointment for you the day after tomorrow. Will that work for you?" "Yes sir. I'll be there." Besides, the sooner he went, the soon he'd know for sure...
