Physical Description of Persona:
Optham stands just under 6 feet tall. He tries to keep himself in good shape, as he knows he should, and he does fairly well, for all that he does not have much time for exercise. He has medium brown slightly curly hair and a beard and moustache that he keeps neatly trimmed. He has honest dark brown eyes that have always helped in his profession as they lead people to trust him. His skin is a medium tone and he tans easily. He has a ready smile, and it is a nice one.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Following mostly in his father's footsteps, Optham has always felt like he has something to prove. Determined to be just as good, or better than his father, he has dedicated himself completely to his work. Of course, it helps that he enjoys it. He lives to help people. He has made an effort in his life to be a serious man, but he cannot help smiling most of the time. He is not at all romantic or very interested in romantic relationships. He only married because his mother arranged it for him and insisted. He so wanted to make her happy that he could not back out of it. His unwillingness has always put a strain on his relationship with his wife.

History of Persona:
Optham was born somewhere in the middle of 7 children and always felt that he was being lost in the shuffle. He desperately wanted to be noticed by his father who seemed to only care for his work and ocasionally his oldest son. His father was a very good healer who had just been promoted to Master at the age of 45. He died unfortunately from a fairly routine illness, and it was quite a shock to his family. Optham was 13 at the time and had just started his apprenticeship at the healer hall the previous year. The death of his father was painful for him since he felt that he had not done anything to show his father his worth and he would not get a chance. Still, it pushed him to work harder and he excelled through all of his healer training. When he reached Sr. Journeyman rank at age 26, he was assigned to Dragonsfall Weyr, where he specialized in surgery in order to better treat threadscores and other 'Fall related injuries. He married at age 28 when his mother pressured him into it. He had to change a great deal more than he'd hoped he would have to when he got married, and it has been a learning experience for him. Despite all the years they've been together, Optham still seems a bit clueless when it comes to his wife, Tersa. Despite his shaky marital relationship, his love for his children is undeniable. He considers his 40th Turn, the best of his life as it included both the birth of his second daughter and his promotion to Master.

Optham worked at Dragonsfall Weyr for many years under Master Rigmor. Though he was sad to see Rigmor leave, he was delighted to accept his new position as Weyrhealer.
