Ivane looked up from where she was cleaning up crumbs off the table.
Kailvan had finished his lunch and was down for a nap. She knew Kailatan might come home early. Her father had requested a meeting with him and, from the sound of things, it would be a serious one. Ivane quickly finished cleaning and threw away the crumbs, then moved over to meet her husband in the main area. "What did he say?" She asked softly, rubbing her hands against her skirt.
"Your father," he said with a smile for his wife. "It wasn't as bad as it could have been."
"Well...I suppose that's good." Ivane moved forward to embrace her husband, her head resting upon his chest. "But what did he say? Are you in trouble?"
His arms went around her. "No, not yet. He said if it had been anyone else, we could both have been in trouble." His embrace tightened slightly. "I didn't think I was doing anything wrong explaining why I was measuring up how I was and having you record it. You wanted to know."
Ivane sighed, he gaze lowering. "I'm sorry. I never meant for you to get into trouble because of me."
"You asked me a question and I showed you, and to be honest, you understood it quicker than any of the apprentices around here. There is nothing wrong in wanting to learn, and your father knows that."
"So does that mean you aren't in trouble?" Ivane queried, looking back up at her husband. She had hoped her father would be lenient.
"He gave us two options, that you stop asking questions, or if you really want to learn then we have to leave, to go to a Weyr," he looked his wife in the eyes. "He said it'd not be easy there, that the ways of the weyrfolk are not the same as us here at the Hall, but that you could learn there if it was what you truly wanted, and that he'd tell people I'd just been transferred and not say where."
"You mean...I could craft?" The idea was appealing. Of course, Ivane wasn't completely unaware of the differences between hold and hall from weyr, but she certainly didn't know everything. She had heard there were women crafters there. She paused, then asked softly, "What do you think?"
"I think it's your decision love. I want to do what makes you happy, and what is best for us and Kailvan"
"I don't want you to be unhappy, though." Ivane insisted. "Would you be unhappy going to a Weyr?"
"It'd certainly be different," he said, keeping his thoughts to himself a moment.
"That's not what I asked." Ivane pressed, pulling away from his embrace.
"So long as we're all together I'll be happy, it doesn't matter where we are."
Ivane rubbed her hands against her skirt, her mind whirling with the possibilities. "If it doesn't work out...could we come back?" She asked finally.
"I think so, your Father never said it would be a permanent move."
She went silent a moment more, then nodded. "Then let's try it."
"You sure?" he asked.
"Yes." Ivane stated softly. "As long as we can come back if it doesn't work...I want to try."
"The I'll speak to your father tomorrow and get it organised."
Ivane smiled, embracing her husband again, then reaching up to caress his cheek. "You are so good to me."
His hand reached up and covered hers momentarily, "Because you are so good for me."
