Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 18 of Turn 4

Kendaria walked into one of the usually empty classrooms. She queitly sat at a table and took out a book and began to read. She had just been looking for a place to read in peace. She had had another run in with one of the other candidates. This one had said she needed another scar on the other side to match. So, she had run to find a place to sit in quiet.

It didn't remain quiet for long. A few moments later a young man entered, a staff in one hand, gitar in the other, and a canine at his heels. The creature stopped and tilted his head to the side as he regarded the strange person. The young man didn't seem to pay any attention to the woman until she moved. He paused then and turned toward where he had heard the sound. "Hello?"

Kendaria looked up form her book. "Hello, I'm sorry did I disturb you?" She said in a quiet voice. She really hadn't meant to.

"I didn't realise someone was in here." Lirit's face easily alighted with a smile and he cocked his head politely toward the woman. "I had thought to practise here, but I can find another classroom."

"no it's alright. I don't mind. I was just reading." She pulled her hair down on one side hoping to hide her face. She did not want to hear more jokes about her scar. She didn't know that he could not see it as it was.

"I don't mind." Lirit stated cheerfully and turned back toward the door. "You were here first, you should stay. I can find somewhere else so I don't disturb you."

"No, it's alright. I really don't mind. I am just reading. It really won't bother me." She didn't want him to be put out. "I'll sit quietly and listen. That is if you don't mind."

"I don't mind." Lirit turned back and around, his staff stretching forward as if seeking and coming to a stop upon the leg of a chair. The young man'd hand groped for but a moment before it found the back of the chair and he lowered himself into it. "Though I do hope I don't hit any wrong notes. That would be rather embarrassing."

Kendaria watched him quietly. She noticed as he seemed to feel around for things. With a start she realized he couldn't see. She sat up straighter. "How can you play with out seeing?" She asked before she could stop herself. She gasped at her audacity and looked down at her hands.

"I use my ears and my mind." If Lirit was annoyed at the question, he did a sharding good job of hiding it. "I learned what strings made what sound and learned to play by listening to others. It's really not that hard." Especially if one was used to doing it that way.

Darie sighed. " I am so sorry. I hadn't meant for it to slip out. I'm sure you've had many people ask you about it." She knew all about being questioned over and over again. She fingered her scar.

"I don't mind, really." Lirit's smile widened as he spoke, echoing his sentiment. "It's not something you see a lot of and naturally people get curious when they run into someone who can't see. I prefer people speak candidly rather than vaguely."

"Well, I really must comend you. You haven't let it stop you from what you want. You want to be a harper so you found a way to be one. I'm Kendaria by the way." She smiled still fingering her scar. It was a unconscience thing.

"Lirit." The young man stuck his hand out in the direction of the girl in a friendly gesture. "Well met, Kendaria. Are you a harper as well?"

"No, I was the daughter of a seacrafter. I was at sea with my father and brothers when our ship went down. I washed ashore and a dragonrider found me on the beach. He was from here. He brought me back here. I'm a candiate now." She refrained from telling him about her injury.

"I'm sorry to hear about that." So many people had lost so many family and friends. Lirit was fortunate that he had missed such a devestating event. He wondered, though, why she had chosen to come to Dragonsfall instead of Dolphin Cove. "Are you going to that hatching that is occuring at the other Weyr?"

"I was found by a Dragonsfall rider. He never said why he was there that day. I was just lucky he found me. I had washed ashore and was bleeding. He took me to his home without thought. Here I was tended and when I came too, they asked what happened. I told them my story and they went to search for my father and brothers. They weren't found." She glanced off in the direction of the ocean. "I probably will stay here. I don't belong anywhere else and I don't think I am ready to try to make all new friends.

"Dragonsfall is a nice place." Lirit agreed amiably, purposefully avoiding conversation about her past. It was probably painful to her and he certainly didn't want to bring up bad memories. "I like it here myself."

"I've come to like it too. People have been nice. Mostly," She said the last quietly. There were those that teased her a bit for her scar. It was one thing for a dragonrider to have a scar but for someone not on a dragon it was a blimish. She didn't get it from saving all of Pern.

Lirit's eyebrows launched upwards at the last remark but decided not to comment. He didn't know the girl very well and doing so might simply bring up an unpleasant topic for her. "So looking forward to the next hatching?" Lirit wasn't sure when that was as he didn't really pay that much attention to when the gold's rose - until they rose. He could never impress and he was more concerned with his music anyway.

"Yes. Though, It may be one of my last. I'm getting a bit old for impressing. I may look into being a foster mom though." She smiled.

"More power to you!" Lirit reached down to take his gitar from its case. He settled into his instrument and lightly began to pluck the strings. "Nothing wrong with being a foster mother."

Kendaria smiled. "That is what a friend of mine said. I wish I could play. My fingers only seem to fumble though." She whatched him. He truely amazed her though.

"I'm sure you could take lessons if you wanted." Lirit encouraged, letting the melody wind around his words. "Come, I need to practise and at the same time I shall entertain you if you like. Then you can critique me, eh?"

Kendaria smiled as she moved closer. He was really nice and she had to admit kind of cute. "I shall try not to be a harsh critic." There was humer in her voice. She listened as he played. Without knowing it she had closed ehr eyes and begun to hum a soft melody around his playing, swaying slightly.

"Be as harsh as you want, as long as it's honest." Lirit laughed softly, then began to sing.
