Vandor

D'ren squinted at the horizon. **What is that? Smoke?** His heart beat faster at the possibility. He was riding sweep near Red Rush Hold and wondered if it was in danger.

}:I think it is. A lot of smoke.:{ Menanth flew faster, straight for the gray-black cloud forming above the hold. Before they reached it, D'ren's fears were confirmed. The hold was on fire. People ran from buildings, ran into buildings, ran with buckets of water, trying to put out the blaze. **Tell the Weyr! We need help!**

D'ren landed near a group of people, safely away from the blaze, and slipped off his bronze's neck. He ran up to the nearest person. "I called the Weyr. Help is coming."

Some of the holders were in shock when they saw the bronze. Then one of the men stopped what he was doing and pointed to Barric. "He's the one in charge, bronzerider." Then he ran forward to help with the digging.

Barric was walking up and down the line of men who were digging a ditch for all they were worth to use as a firebreak. At this point, he didn't have much hope to save the building. He just needed to keep the rest of them from catching. "Come on men! Harder, faster!"

"Holder!" D'ren said, for lack of anything better to call him. "I've called the Weyr for help. Should we help with digging? Or if you can find something to carry water in, we can try to douse the flames."

Barric's attention was diverted for a moment. Focusing on the knots, he was thankful that the Weyr was there for support. Help..was coming. "We have barrels for storage." Yelling, he grabbed an adolescent. "Ullie, take the bronzerider to the cooperage. Do whatever he says."

The boy, wide eyed, nodded vigorously. "This way, rider!" Hurrying around the Hold's remaining four buildings, he headed to an outbuilding behind one of them. The cooperage smelled, but the empty barrels waited there in storage. "Here they are!"

**Can you carry these, filled with water?** D'ren sent the image of the barrels to his dragon. }:Yes. Easy.:{ D'ren grabbed the first barrel and dragged it outside. As he reached Menanth, he spotted the first of the other dragons in the sky.

Ri'len had heard of Red Rush Hold, but he had never been there before. Fortunately, an image had been sent among those who had heard the call and were to answer. The hold lay beneath him, smoke billowing out and into the air. "Great Faranth..." The young man urged his dragon down and Ri'len dismounted as soon as his dragon touched the ground. He saw another dragonrider and a man shouting. A passerby pointed him out to Barric as well and Ri'len approached. "Sir!"

Sh'dori never hesitated or lazed about when there was an emergency. When Rahmuth picked up the alarm, they were up in the air and on the way with the first ones. The experienced brown pair landed right after the young bronzerider and hurried to catch up. "Ri'len," he said. "Any idea what's the situation?" he asked.

They almost had a decent firebreak dug. Barric continued to urge the men on while he looked over in the direction of where the healers had set up everything. His head ached at the sight of his holders hurt. Faranth what had gone wrong? Not taking the time to dwell on it now, he saw the riders. "The bronzerider went that way to the shed. He could use your help," he told them, knowing riders could communicate more easily.

Ri'len nodded and motioned for Sh'dori to follow. He turned upon his heel and called back to his fellow dragonrider, "All I know is there's a fire." There was a pause, then he continued, "Monilath says D'ren is here." Ri'len picked up the pace and soon found the bronzerider in question. It didn't take long to catch on to what D'ren was doing. Pretty soon, Monilath was at Menanth's side and carried large barrels of water to help.

Sh'dori nodded and followed the young bronzerider to find something for Rahmuth to hold and pour water onto the fire. More dragons arrived. N'mor and Kedvencth came to the scene and joined the other riders in the attempt to put down the fire.

The Emerald Falls watchdragon appeared, and landed at a safe distance. After the passengers had gotten down, Corowal ran to Barric. "Holder Barric! What is going on?"

Barric was trying his best to keep his head. It was hard, though, with his people suffering around him. He was related to most of the folks here in some way or fashion. "Mlord, a fire started. We tried to get as many out as we could, but we can't save the building. There's a break dug so I think the other buildings are safe. Now we just need to get the thing stopped. So many hurt..." He saw Miranek then and his knots. "Master, can you please see to them? The Weyr's sending healers but we don't have much here for supplies."

"Can you find me a safe area that we can get the injured to?" asked the Healer. "I'll need to assess them and see just what supplies we need to fetch here."

Barric left one of his holders in charge of the ground effort and nodded to the Master. Walking with him, he passed by some of the folks that were sitting on the ground, unable to move for the moment. Arriving at the building farthest from the one burning, Barric entered. Part of it was offices. The rest was the meeting hall, where they held dances and handfastings and other important ceremonies. "We can put them here. There's access to water and kitchens. Hearths for boiling."

"Good," Miranek looked around. It certainly had enough room for a half dozen casualties at least. "Would there be anyone else here with any form of Healer training?"

"That would be me." A man - a very large, very dark man came forward. The knots upon his shoulder did indeed mark him as a senior journeyman healer, but of the Weyr. He had just arrived on the back of a green and immediately made his way over to the group when he had heard the question. He offered a small smile to the Master and nodded politely.

"Journeyman," Miranek nodded to the man. "I wish the circumstances of our meeting were more pleasant than this."

"Aye." Vandor glanced around and winced. A lot of damage - and how many injured? They would soon find out. "Journeyman Vandor at your service Master. Put me to work."

Barric took that moment to leave the Master to his trade. "Thank you. We'll start sending people here. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back."
