"Ready" called out Teseada as she took her place in the line. Today's drill involved tossing firestone bags about. And the last thing anyone needed was to be caught unawares. Those things were heavy.
"In position!" Aryn said, tossing a salute to no in particular as she stood beside Teseada.
Then it started. Bag after bag came down the line. Some were heavier than others, some lighter.
"Here!" Aryn said, tossing her current bag to Teseada. "This be a bit easier if the weights were the same, don't you think?"
"I know," puffed Teseada. The hard work and exertion was taking it's toll, although she was fitter now than she had ever been, she still carried a little more weight than was truly good for her. "They said they'd be different in a real fall though."
"Thats too bad," Aryn said, swinging another bag. "Maybe we can convince the stuffers to even off the bags a bit more. "Wait," she sighed, "thats our job too, isn't it?"
"Oh for the life of a weyrling," grinned Teseada as the Weyrlingmaster signalled a break. "We spend all our time dreaming about what it will be like, no-one warns you about this."
"Phew, break!" she said, mustering a bit of a skip for her jog.
"Well, its better then twiddling my thumbs, I like to be active!" Aryn said. She flexed her arm a bit, still a bit amazed at the new forming muscles. She wasn't sure what to make of them, besides the additional staminia reserves she was developing.
"I was active in my craft, but nothing like this!" As a technician she was often running around they weyr, fixing things. But this was a whole different form of exercise, much more concentrated and tiring. But somehow worth it.
"You're the lucky one," Aryn replied. "I wasn't allowed to craft, I wasn't even allowed to help me brothers with their chores," she said rolling her eyes. "Now isn't that downright silly?"
"Very," replied the weyrbred girl. "I can't imaging not having the option."
"So you were a technician, right? What exactly did you do, with that," Aryn asked, curious.
"Fix things mainly, stuck taps and the like. Unplugging drains was the worst though."
"So, almost as unglamorous as dragonriding really is?" Aryn replied, in a joking manner.
"Looks like that sometimes," replied Teseada in the same tone.
Aryn looked around. "How much longer for break you think?"
"Not much longer."
"You know, all these drills, chores, lessons, _and_ taking care of our lifemates?" Aryn said, her thoughts wandering a bit, "It makes you wonder what we'll do to fill our time when we graduate. I mean, thread doesn't fall in dragonfalls territory every day."
"They'll have me doing hidework. It'll be like I was back in Harper Classes." Teseada knelt quickly to check the laces were still fastened on her boots.
"Oh sorry, thats right," Aryn said, biting her lip at having forgotten goldriders have additional duties, "Its going to be a little different for you isn't it?"
"Yes, and that's a scary thought. What if I end up Weyrwoman?"
"That _is_ quite scary," shes responded, but then looked at Teseada with an impish face. "If you need help staying humble I'm sure I can help."
Before teseada could think of an appropriate response, the Weyrlingmaster signalled them back into drills. "Looks like it's back to this for now."
"Yes, it appears so." she said while returning to her position.
"Guess you won't have to worry about needing humbling for a while,"
Aryn replied to her own response.
