Vandor slipped into consciousness again, but this time, he was back in
his bed and it wasn't a sudden awakening that sent him scrambling into
his room. This time, he had his arms around a warm, naked body. A
beautiful body, one he had explored quite thoroughly only a few hours
prior. His lips curled up into a smile and he drew her closer against
his own body, his desire already making itself known even as he tried
to shake off the last dregs of sleep.
She came pleasantly awake without opening her eyes "Mmmmm" she said
and wiggled her hips.
"Keep that up," Vandor murmured, voice low and husky, "And you will
not be asleep for long."
She felt the rumble of his voice against her back. How many times over
the last few turns had she thought about this but he never seemed
interested in anyone. Deep down where she didn't really want to look
she wondered what had changed. She giggled and wiggled again and a
smile spread across her face at the reaction.
Vandor growled, a playful sound and pulled up, only so he could flip
Tavia onto her back and cover her mouth with his own. His hands began
wandering over her delicious skin and his mouth soon followed as he
drew her back into the heights to make a very good start for the
morning.
She didn't do much thinking until she lay there where her head
pillowed against his shoulder. "And we have to work today?"
"Yes we do." It was still early, though they couldn't linger too much
longer. After all, they would have to get up, get dressed and ready
for the day and Vandor had a feeling Tavia might want a chance to get
back to her weyr before she went on duty. Still, he savoured the
moment while he could. "I have to say I'm tempted not to leave my
bed, though."
"I certainly wouldn't mind but Sawauth has been itching since
yesterday and I promised her a bath once the storm passed. Not only
that but we need to help clean up."
"Can't have an itchy dragon." But Vandor still didn't make a move to
get up. Instead, he curled his arm tighter, holding her close, as if
trying to cling to the moment, as if he knew it might be a fleeting
thing that could never be caught again. "Help clean up. Join me for
lunch today?"
She felt the tightening and molded herself against his side reaching
across his chest with her other arm. These magical moments didn't last
all that long and she wanted to savor it before reality barged in on
them. "Sure," she smiled up at him.
"Dare I ask for dinner too?" A grin pressed upon Vandor's full lips
and he gazed at her through half lidded eyes, more than happy to share
his warmth with her.
"That actually sounds very nice." She hugged him. "Where?"
"Anywhere you like." She had a dragon, she could take them elsewhere
if that's what she wanted, and Vandor would go with her.
"Well around here will will be a mess after that storm and I can't
/between/ at the moment so..." she grinned up at him. "Dining hall? Or
do you have another idea?"
"The dining hall is fine." Vandor agreed pleasantly. "Unless you
want something of a more intimate nature." And there was a hint of
promise in those words.
"Intimate is never a bad thing." She sat up and turned to swing her
feet over the side of the bed. "I really have to get Sawauth to the
lake for her bath. She's itchy." She turned back to him cocking one
knee up on the side of the bed. "I have to thank you for getting me
through that storm. It's usually a sleepless night of cowering
somewhere in the dark.. This was much nicer."
"Any time." Vandor sat up and admired her. He'd seen her naked
before, but that had been as a healer. Now he could appreciate her as
a lover. "If you need me, come."
She grinned impishly, "I thought I did... several times."
Vandor reached out, his hand sliding along her thigh and then further
upward, teasing, then pulled away. "Come again. Soon."
"Ooohh" she giggled and got off the bed. "Tease." She started pulling
on her clothes. Much more of that and Sawauth would be pouting at her
for staying away too long. Besides that she was going to need a bath
herself and there was so much needed to be cleaned up after the storm.
Vandor watched her as she dressed. Things had changed, and rather
suddenly. He'd been keeping his distance for some time, though she
had expressed interest on more than one occasion. And now he was
wondering why in Pern he hadn't allowed himself to act on it before.
He liked her. They certainly had their disagreements, but that didn't
stop him from liking her. He'd have to think on it. In the mean
time, he too needed to get dressed and ready for the day.
