Birigundi

Birigundi

Birigundi looked up to see a familiar face staring down at him as he sat along the Weyrlake beach. "Aryn. Haven't see you in a couple days.
How have you been?"

"Its been alright," she said quietly. She couldn't help thinking on her behavior a few days back, during the public fight. She had known she would alientate her brother for a bit, but they were sibbling, such actions natural. It meant he was no longer bothering her, for the moment, so that had worked. But... **I shouldn't have tried to drag other people into it though** was what was haunting her.

"Can I, sit?" she asked akwardly.

"Sure. Have a seat." He smiled softly. She had been wrong to embarrass her brother in public like that, but Birigundi had never had a sister or a brother. He knew siblings could get away with behavior friends and enemies could not be forgiven for.

She sat down, carefully not too close, although some human comfort could help the situation. She missed it, but didn't want to fall into temptation either. "So," she didn't want to break right into things, so she stalled, "how have _you_ been, lately?"

"As well as can be expected, given the mood in the Weyr," he shrugged.
"But not bad."

Aryn brought her knees up to her chin and held herself, in not quite a fetal position. It had been so quite, with too much time for contemplation lately. Aryn didn't like it, she didn't want to be thoughtful. She looked forward, not sure what to say. She never seemed to know what to say anymore, she hated second guessing herself.
"Thats, good to hear," she replied, quietly.

"You ok?" He knew many people were having a hard time dealing with the events of the last few days. Dragonriders especially.

"I could be worse, I, could be a lot worse," she said, her voice quavering a bit. She felt like she had no one she could simply talk too.

"You could be a lot better, too," he said with a worried frown. "Come over here and tell me what's bothering you."

She nudged a little bit closer, before speaking. "I've alienated a lot of people recently. And with, how things have been? I just, feel lonely, and its my own fault. And this, is just not a good time, to be alone?"

He reached over and took the greenrider's hand. "You didn't alienate me, Aryn. You probably shouldn't have brought me into that fight between you and your brother, but I think you know that already."

"Yes, and, I'm sorry," she replied turning more towards him, the touch of his hand comforting her. "I know, I knew from the look on your face. I wasn't sure you would speak to me again," she laughed weakly.
"I went, more then a bit overboard I think."

"Well, if I end a friendship it would be for more than one mistake."
After all, how many mistakes had _he_ made in his lifetime. "I know you didn't mean to hurt _me_. And I don't know, I guess brothers and sisters have some kind of reason or right to hurt each other. Just please, Aryn, don't pull me into it again."

"I promise, I won't," she said, then smiled mischeviously. "Next time I'll pull someone else in?" She cackled, and ducked, anticipating possible reactions. "I'm joking of course! I shouldn't have been hurting Toriat either, but, I just wanted him to _leave_me_alone_."
Another weak laugh. "And, it worked, quite well," she sighed. "too well."

"Well, women seem to know just how to rip a man down. Even sisters."
Thank goodness Birigundi never had one. He had always thought it would have been nice, but after that fight in the dining caverns, he realized he hadn't missed much. "Maybe you can patch things up with him."

Aryn smuthered a laugh at Birigundi's first comment. "Eventually, certainly. I just hope its before I _retire_ from the wings."

"Hopefully before you graduate to senior weyrling," Birigundi said with a promising smile, "so _I_ can forgive you properly."

This time Aryn barked in laughter, she couldn't help it. "Oh, its not that I don't want to be forgiven Birigundi, but how many of the new weyrlings will you be forgiv_ing_?"

"As many as require it," he grinned back.

"You better not make that known, or all the weyrlings will suddenly be finding themselves caught at mischeif," she said with a laugh.

His eyebrows raised in mock surprise. "You make that sound like it's a _bad_ thing."

"Oh, I just thought you were hetero...?" she said, a smile creeping on her face.

"Well, you do know you come from a mighty good looking family. Would you not forgive me if your brother and I..." He ducked to avaide any retaliation.

Aryn moved to pumpel Birigundi, and although he ducked, she had thrown all her weight so she instead fell on top of him. "You!"

"You started it," he laughed as he rolled over on top of her, pinning her down to the sand with the weight of his body and grinning down at her.

"Too bad you can't end it," Aryn sighed, going limp. She knew wiggling would be dangerous.

"Ah... Right." Birigundi reluctantly rolled off her again. "Sometimes I forget."

"Its ok," she said, sitting up again. "How much longer now?" She wondered. drilling had begun, but it seemed flying would be a ways away. Still, Viyanth was growing so fast!

"Two more months." It was rather sad, Birigundi thought, that he had memorised every step of his friends weyrlinghood, and yet he still had no lifemate of his own to train with.

Aryn could see answering her rhetorical question made Birigundi sad.
"Next hatching I bet. You know? When you meet him, this time will seem like nothing," she said, her thoughts recalling her own impression of Viyanth.

"Yeah, I know," he replied quickly. Perhaps a little _too_ quickly. He gave her an grateful smile. "But if I Impress, Aryn, it will be a whole new four months we have to wait, you know. I'm not sure you can handle the pressure that long."

"Its a hardship, I will gladly deal with," she said, sticking her tongue at him. "But last time I checked you weren't the _last_ male on Pern."

"No," he laughed as he lay back on the sand, pillow his head in his hands. "No the last. Just the best."

Aryn mirrored his actions. It was nice to laugh again, it seemed like it had been so long. "Well," she turned her face to him, "We'll just have to wait and see."
