Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 20 of Turn 6
Tavia was ready for this pregnancy to be over. She was tired and
uncomfortable all the time and the baby seemed to be playing Waterball
with her ribs. As she went into the infirmary she just hoped against
hope Vandor would have some good news for her.
"Ah, Tavia." Vandor had a smile for the greenrider and then motioned
for her to come back. "How are you feeling?" He lead her further
inwards and through to a sectioned off area. Once she was inside, he
pulled the curtain and turned to face. her.
She followed him into the exam area and moved to stand beside the
table. "Feeling ok, just wish the baby would decide to be born
already." She smiled at the big healer. One thing she'd always enjoyed
was working with the man. She'd always felt a deep friendship for him.
Even when things had become a bit awkward for a time after the Turn
Over storms, she hoped they would work together again.
"Well, the babe will come in his or here own time." Vandor opened a
drawer and pulled out a robe then held it out to Tavia. "I'll examine
you, see if you're body is getting ready. If you'll just strip from
the waist down and put this on, I'll be back in a moment." He then
stepped out, giving the woman privacy.
Tavia took the robe and did as he asked. Vandor had been so reserved
with her during her pregnancy she longed for the easy friendship
they'd once shared. She did as he asked and wrapped the robe around
her and sat back on the table again.
Vandor returned momentarily and began the examination. He made it as
quick and as painless as possible, but it just wasn't usually something
particularly comfortable for a woman. Ah, the joys of pregnancy. "All
right, get dressed and we'll discuss your status."
Once he'd left the area she redressed and sat back down to wait. She'd
seen him do this so many times before but this time was different and
she had an entirely different view of the healer. She smiled as he
returned. "So what's the good news?"
"Not long. You're about two centimeters dilated." Vandor swept his
hand from one side to the other. "Of course, you could remain that way
for sevendays, but I would say you're on the home stretch. In truth,
you could go into labour at any time. Have you lost your mucous plug
yet?"
"Ohh," she breathed, she_was_ getting close. "I don't think so," she
responded to his question. She'd been watching but there were ways it
could get past her. She really was happy they were almost there.
"Thank you Vandor. How soon do you want me to let you know when I'm in
labor?"
"You'd probably know it." Vandor chuckled and nod. "When you feel
comfortable letting me know. Right away, or if you feel like waiting."
"Ok," she nodded. "I'll send Glory for you if I think it's getting to
be time. Like if my water breaks or something like that." She was
pretty lucky the young gold flit was so smart. She'd learned taking
messages and getting peoples attention so quickly it amazed Tavia.
"Please do. I'll come as soon as I can, and if I can't, I'll send someone
straight to you." Vandor did hope he could be there for the labour. It
was always a fascinating thing, birth and delivery.
"Ok," she smiled. "That sounds great." She knew she could count on
Vandor to take care of her.
