Pierka groaned as she came slowly back to consciousnesses. Of course
the first thing she realized was the pain in her back. But even in her
groggy state she reached out to Liddith.
}:Mine!:{ the sheer joy in her lifemate's voice curved the corner of
her mouth and caused the beginning of a chuckle.
"Owww," she said as the laugh made the hurting worse.
"Take it easy," Sh'del said, patting her hand. "You've been badly
Threadscored but you're going to be okay." The last few words came out
rather chocked. Pierka was his first injury as Weyrlingmaster and
Sh'del was struggling with it.
She lay face down and turned her head to look at the Weyrlingmaster.
"Is Liddith alright? How did we get here." She could tell her lifemate
was injured and the approximate location but nothing more.
"Ah, you're awake." Vandor poked his head in first, then moved over
to the other side of the greenrider. He smiled warmly down at her.
"How are you feeling?"
"Not so good," she said a little sheepishly twisting her head to look
up at the healer.
"Liddith is okay," Sh'del said, gently but firmly holding a hand on
her's to signal that she shouldn't move.
"I'm going to check your bandages and change them." Vandor explained
as he motioned to the bucket of supplies he brought in with him.
"Keep things clean."
"Yes sir," she said to the healer and responded to Sh'del's signal to
hold still. "Sir?" She turned her head and spoke to Sh'del this time.
"How did we get to the ground? I don't remember anything."
"The Weyrleader's bronze caught you." Sh'del closed his eyes against
the feeling of that horrible moment when Loranth told him what had
happened to the little green. Once she was comfortable and he could
go and see N'vanik he was having the largest pint he could find.
"You're a lucky young woman. You'll make a full recovery." Vandor's
tone was gentle as was his smile. "It will take a way, but you'll
eventually be as good as new."
"He did," she asked wonderingly. How was it the Weyrleader happened to
be right there at significant moments in her life. She blinked at the
random thought but it was followed by another from her foggy memory of
events or people talking round her when she was in and out of
consciousness. She wondered if he was alright.
Looking back at the doctor she tried to take a deep breath but it
hurt. She winced but smiled anyway. "Thank you, I'm glad to hear
that." She repeated it to Liddith right away as well, reassuring her
lifemate that she would completely recover.
"You just heal up and we'll forgive you taking our Weyrleader out,"
Sh'del teased her, patting her hand one more time.
"Taking him out?" she squeaked. "I thought he was okay!" Her head
turned back toward Vandor. "Is he going to be okay?" Her heart was
thumping in her chest.
"He's going to be just fine." Vandor assured the young woman and
reached out to pat her gently. "You need to worry about yourself, my
dear."
She blew out a sigh of relief. "Ohhh that scared me." She turned back
to Sh'del "You're a bad man," she laughed. Then she flinched as the
movement caused pain in her back. She tried to swallow her heart back
down to where it belonged in her chest, but not move in the process.
"You just knocked him out." Sh'del patted her hand again. "Not to
worry, it's done him a world of good, he's a new man now."
She wondered if that would make him _more_ or _less_ scary. She hoped
for the former of course. "Can I have something to eat?"
"Of course. We'll get you something to eat and drink. You should
rest...Sh'del, I hope you'll forgive me if I ask you to let her rest."
Vandor gave him a good natured smile.
