Tavia

Out of respect for Aileyan's feelings, U'kaiah didn't rush right away to
Dolphin Cove to tell Tavia the good news, but instead anxiously waited
out the morning. Finally having hardly touched his afternoon meal, he
could wait no longer and jumped onto his bronze's great neck. Trading
the warm afternoon sun in Dragonsfall for twilight of Dolphin Cove.
There was still plenty of light to guide them to her ledge, though they
knew it so well now, they could find it any time, day or night.

U'kaiah gave Suwauth a gentle rub on her eyeridge, noticing that Tavia
had not come to greet them.

}:She is helping the injured,:{ Kalamath answered, having passed on his
question to the green.

Right, he thought. She was on duty in the infirmary. Well, there was
nothing to do but continue to wait. **I'll just go inside then,** he
said giving his bronze a pat and walking back towards the curtain.

}:Don't worry, I'll be fine out here,:{ his lifemate replied already
scooting closer to the pretty green.

It was Sawauth who told her Kalamath had come to admire her freshly
oiled hide. Tavia half smiled at the pleasure in her mind voice.
**Please ask Kalamath to let his know I will be there soon.**

But though her intentions were to get away, it was more than half a
candlemark before she actually trotted up the steps with dinner in
hand. "Sorry I'm late," she called as she came through the door of
her weyr.

The wait had been excruciating. He was bursting at the seams to tell
her the news! Finally, he could ask her to come to Dragonsfall, to
truly make a life with him, even if she would have to share it with
Aileyan. Yes, the little greenrider was in thoughts, too. Always in
the back of his mind was the fear that she would change her mind, or
worse, that she would end things with him completely. He had sworn to
never leave her, but she had never done the same. But, for the first
time in a long, all U'kaiah could do was live in the moment and hope all
turned out well - that his two little families would become one happy
whole.

Living in the moment used to come naturally to him. Wasn't that how he
and Tavia started? Little snippets of moments stolen here and there
with no real thought of any future. Those days were fun. It was all
laughter, and sweat, and surprises, and pleasures... When she had
discovered she was with child, things had turned serious surprisingly
quickly. And it was a happy accident that they did. Not only had he a
new little son to love, but he came to know the woman inside Tavia in a
way he never imagined he would in the beginning.

Beginning... This was a _new_ beginning, for all of them. This was a
moment that would change all their lives forever. It would be hard, of
that he was well aware. But they would all face it, and fight to make a
future together, of that he was certain. Because one thought built
inside him over the long minutes waiting alone in her room, looking at
the couch they had cuddled on, the table they had laughed at, the bed
they had made love in - **I want this woman.** All of her. Her
breasts, her smile, her hips, her laughter, her hands, her wisdom, her
moan, her tenderness. There wasn't a piece of her he didn't want to
explore, tangible or intangible. And that, more than anything, made the
moments slip by so slowly until she walked through that door.

As she set the basket on the table, his arms slipped around her waist
and he breathed into her ear, "I want to make love you, Tavia."

"Ooooh," she purred back at him as she let the basket go. "I like it
when you're randy." This part of U'kaiah she knew very well and it
stimulated her in ways she found irresistible. Gone were her second
thoughts as she responded to him and lived as she once had, in the
moment.

Pulling him with her she backed into her sleeping chamber.

He smiled his cocky bronzerider grin. As he allowed her to pull him
along, his eyes racked over her body, undressing her with his eyes.
This time he knew so well just what the layers concealed. But there was
time when he was discovering it for the first time. "Do you remember
when you invited me back to your weyr after the waterball game?"

"Oh yes," she said and swayed seductively while her eyes danced. "I
got a nice bronze trophy for winning that game."

"After that vicious kick you gave me during the game, it was only right
you should console me for losing," U'kaiah said as he helped lift her
tunic over her head. His lips found the hollow of her throat and
continued along her collarbone. He was sure she didn't know just how
big of a step it had been for her to approach her that night. It had
only been a few months before that he had lost Jaela, and the sting of
her passing still hurt deeply. It was only a quick hook-up after a
waterball game, but it had helped him along his road to healing. And
yet, even then he could never imagine that one day they would be where
they were now.

She had the grace to look a tiny bit embarrassed. "I didn't intend it
to be quite so hard but it did keep you from making the goal." She
half smiled "but what a ride it's been." She'd never thought to allow
herself to get close enough to anyone after her rough breakup with
L'rak. But Kaiavin had changed everything, and now she was in a place
where she'd had given her heart to another person, for good or bad.
Despite the uncertainties ahead she knew she had to at least try to
make this move work.

"What a ride," U'kaiah agreed as he pulled his own shirt over his head,
his smile only deepening. "Now get on the bed, greenrider. I've still
got a few moves you haven't seen."

~~**~~

Even when it was over, it was almost as if they couldn't bare to stop.
Their heart rates slowed, but if anything, their kisses deepened, still
leaving them breathless. Sometimes he felt he just couldn't get enough
of her.

It was almost like their first times of athletic fun in the furs and
she lay back in pleasant release. "What a ride," she repeated his
earlier comment with a grin. She thought she'd like being closer to him
at Dragonsfall. Even with his time split between Aileyan and her it
would be more time than she'd had previously with his visits to
Dolphin Cove. But a shadow crossed her face when she thought about
other drawbacks or maybe not drawbacks but uncertainties. She curled
herself into his side with her head on his shoulder and her fingers
traced the hair on his chest.

"Tavia," he said softly, caressing her arm with his fingertips in much
the same she did him, "I came here today because there's something
important I need to ask you."

"Oh," she inquired and twisted her neck to see his face.

He shifted to his side so they could look at each other more
comfortably. U'kaiah wanted to read her eyes as he said, "I know we've
talked about your moving to Dragonsfall for a long time, but it was
always something we were planning in the future. But now, I'm really
asking you, will you come to Dragonsfall and be with me there?"

She'd made the decision weeks ago and she knew it but that had been
theory only, a 'what if' exercise. This was real and for a moment
Tavia couldn't get any words out. She shifted and sat up next to him
with her feet tucked crossed legged under her. "I want to come to
Dragonfall," she said carefully. "I love you. You know that. But I
guess I need to know how you feel."

He sat up to face her, a look of honest confusion on his face. This was
not a question he had expected. "How I feel about what?"

**Really?** She took a deep slow breath. "Me."
