Description: Vandor checks on his patient, Jenackt.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 26 of Turn 7
Vandor made his rounds. He worked efficiently, but he always took the
time he needed with his patients. He didn't like them to feel rushed
and they deserved to have their needs met.
Of course, one patient's arrival had been rather interesting. Tavia
had been around him when he was awake more than he - as it seemed the
fellow was asleep when he came. Vandor had been on night shift at the
time, so it really hadn't been that surprising. That day was his
first day back on day shift, however, and he hoped to have a chance to
talk with the fellow as he came to the section where he was housed.
Jenackt had managed to sit up on his cot though his head was
particularly fuzzy and he felt a bit dizzy. He didn't know what they
had been giving him, but part of him wondered if they had been
drugging him with something he didn't need. He felt stronger than he
had earlier, but as he forced himself to stand, he had to catch
himself before his wobbly legs gave out from under him. There was a
sharp pain in his thigh and he hissed, looking down at the wrapped
limb. **Shaffit.** His entire leg was sore, but with gritted teeth, he
forced it under him and stood straight.
"Well, that is improvement." Vandor slipped past the curtain and
moved to his patient. "But, I think, a little too early. I really
don't want you to rip out your stitches so let's get you back into
bed."
Pain and the surprise of the man simply coming in made Jenackt surly.
"Who are you?" He set in jaw stubbornly, refusing to get back on the
cot.
"Vandor. Healer. One of the healers who has attended to you good
sir." Vandor was bigger and stronger but he didn't want to force the
man if he didn't have to. Of course, if he had to, well, it would be
easy, especially with his currently weakened state. "And you, young
man, need to heal more before you try to walk out of here. Now, are
you going to get back in bed or am I going to have to pick you up and
put you back?"
He eyed the man, noting his size, but lifted his chin. He had taken
out bigger, but that was with a sword and at his full strength. "I've
been hurt worse." Broken bones worse, but never this weak. He could
barely stand much less fight this man and he didn't want to draw more
attention than he already had. Shaffit. He hated backing down from
anything. "How am I supposed to get better laying in that sharding
bed?" He scowled and carefully sat back on the bed. He wasn't used to
being idle and even though he was weak, his mind was active.
"Your body heals when it rests. You need to give yourself a few more
days minimum." Once Jenackt was settled again, Vandor pulled up the
chair that was at the end of the bed and sat down beside his patient.
"Now, how are you feeling?"
"A few more days?" He frowned deeply and stared at his leg, irritation
welling up. A few more days in bed and he would go insane from
boredom. He said as much. "Bored." He glanced around. He'd never
stayed put for so long without doing something. His leg ached, but he
figured that was obvious. He looked around at the infirmary, already
sick of the clean walls and spaces. He supposed he should be grateful
that they found him and cared for him, but that left him in their
debt. He bit back a curse; he'd never had anyone take care of him
except his mother and even those were faded memories. "I'm just...not
used to this."
"Bored, yes, it's boring. But here's what I can do. In fact, I won't
tell you, I'll just show you." Vandor grin, his teeth stained white
against the darkness of his skin. "It will require a bit of boredom
before I can help, though, as I must do it after my shift is over. I'd
do it now, but that would mean neglecting my patients and I can't do
that. So if you can hold on for a couple more hours, I can help you
with that boredom."
He was immediately suspicious. Eyes narrowed and he pulled back away
from the man. "And what exactly did you have in mind?"
"Well now, you'll just have to wait and see, won't you. In the mean
time, I'll have one of my apprentices tend to you, get you some food.
Your dressings look good and I've been kept abreast of your improvement.
Any aches and pains I need to know about before I move on? Any
concerns on your part?"
Brows lowered even further. If he wasn't going to tell him, he wanted no
part of it. "No. I just want to know when I can get out of here."
"That will depend on your progress. Sevenday perhaps. We'll see how
you heal." Vandor stood. "If you have any issues, don't hesitate to
ask for me. I'm going to cut back on your fellis, but if you feel like
you need it, let a journeyman know."
A sevenday. He glanced at his thigh and sighed. Well, as long as he
could walk out of here in good health, it had to be worth a sevenday of
boredom. And, he could use the time to figure out where to go from here.
There were other places, he knew. Other holds. He could find a way to
get there. As far from Emerald Falls as he could. "Fine."
"I'll check on you later then. Just call one of the apprentices if you
need anything." Undaunted by the young man's attitude, Vandor smiled
and then left the alcove.
