Tavia

Tavia

He was going to be in trouble. U'kaiah was sure of that. And after
Tavia agreed to come to Dragonsfall, too! Shards, what must she be
thinking? All he could hope was that he had not ruined things
completely between them, leaving the way he had. But what could he do?
He couldn't tell a green dragon to _not_ Rise to mate! It was just
flaming rotten luck that Kjarliheth decided to Rise the same day as
Sawauth. But thank the Egg it happened when they were both in different
Weyrs! He would have never been able to choose which one to go to. Of
course, it wouldn't have been his choice, but Kalamath's. Hopefully
Tavia could see that.

After stopping by a mountain meadow to pilfer some pretty wild flowers,
hoping they would make it though the trip /between/, he directed
Kalamath to Dolphin Cove. It was time to face his doom.

"Tavia?" he called softly after slipping off Kalamath's neck. The
bronze was also tentative as he bent his neck to touch the green who now
shared her ledge. For sure _he_ had done nothing wrong, but sometimes
the feelings of the rider could bleed over into their lifemate.
"Tavia?" U'kaiah called again as he passed through the curtain, freeing
the small bouquet from his jacket.

Sawauth had announced Kalamath's arrival before Tavia heard him or his
rider. The green's head turned away from the bronze with almost the
sound of a sniff. }:Mine isn't happy with yours:{

Luckily Kaiavin was with his foster mother so Tavia stood in the
middle of her living area with her arms crossed and watched him come
with steely eyes.

Oh shards. That look spoke volumes. His tone and body posture
answering with contriteness. "Tavia, I'm so very sorry. That was not
the way I had intended to leave you yesterday. I shudder to think what
you must think of me right now."

"Care to explain what happened?" She didn't even bother to acknowledge
the flowers in his hand nor the apology. Not yet.

"Aileyan's green Rose to mate and called to Kalamath. He is very fond
of Kjarliheth and was determined to Fly her. Which he did." Cold and
to the point, but completely honest. "I didn't know how close she was
to Rising, though looking back there were signs. I should have known,
but with Aileyan no longer in my Wing, I'm still learning how to tell
when the time is getting close. I was taken by surprise, and Kalamath's
strong feelings of impatience were impossible to ignore. I wish I had
handled the situation better, and I am truly, deeply sorry that I must
have hurt you when I left like that with so little explanation."

This was a little bit different U'kaiah than she usually saw when he'd
come to apologize in the past. This one was contrite and truly sorry
for leaving her the way he had. But she still wasn't happy with him
even though she realized that it was Kalamath's decision and U'kaiah
had simply complied. Much as she might like to continue blaming him
she really couldn't... except.

"You _could_ have just said it was a flight!"

"I know," he said softly, understanding this time _exactly_ what he had
done wrong. Usually he couldn't even guess what he had done to make a
woman angry. "Afterwards I realized that. I wasn't thinking clearly.
I should have said more. I'll do better next time. If there ever _is_
a next time." After all, what were the odds that his two lover's greens
would Rise on the same day _again_?

"Alright," she said, though she was still pouting and unable to let go
of it yet. "Those for me," she asked looking at the flowers in his
hand.

He nodded, holding them out to her. "You said you liked wildflowers."

"I do," she said taking the flowers. They were yellow, her favorite
color. "Thank you," she said softly as she turned to put them into her
water pitcher. She didn't have a container for them so she'd just have
to go get more water.

"So... What about Dragonsfall? Do you still want to come?" U'kaiah
hoped that he hadn't ruined that possibility.

She leaned on the table for a moment before she turned back around.
She'd never really considered backing out once she'd made her
decision. "Yes," she said. "I still want to come."

His relief was obvious in the tiny smile, and the sigh of breath he had
unconsciously been holding. "Good." He felt rather a fool just
standing there, so he moved over to take a seat on her sofa. Things
were still tense and awkward, but he was feeling better knowing things
would move forward.

"Shall we go get Kaiavin," she asked.

He pushed himself back up onto his feet. "Yeah, that sounds good.
But... Are we ok now?" he asked, not wanting to take their problems to
their son.

The corner of her mouth lifted for a moment. "Not yet," she said. "But
we will be."
