Vandor

There was something unnerving about the giant of a man.

Unnerving enough that Meridia lingered outside the door of the healer's
office for several seconds once she realized it was Vandor at the desk.
These matters were something she preferred to share with another woman.

But, things being as they were, the tanner sucked in a breath, adjusted her
long, leather vest jacket, and breezed into the chair in front of him.

"A moment of your time?"

"Of course, come in." Vandor stood as the woman entered then motioned to a
chair. "Please, have a seat. How can I help you?"

"Thank you!" Meridia smiled as she sat down. Such a gentleman! Perhaps this
visit wouldn't be so awkward after all...
"I'm running a little low on my birth control tea, and was hoping I might
get a refill."

"Of course, that's not a problem at all." While Vandor understand women
who hesitated at speaking about such problems with a man, it didn't bother
him at all - he dealt with it all the time. "It won't take long, we keep
it mixed up and on hand. Do you mind waiting a moment?"

"Not at all," she said, leaning back in the chair.

Vandor stood again, but this time he left the room. He was truthful, it
didn't take long and he returned but a moment later. "Here you go." He
handed the pouch over. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

The tanner frowned and leaned back in the chair.
"Maybe. There is a certain apprentice recently entered into the Craft.
She's a pregnant refugee from Emerald Falls, and is about...two months
along from what she says." She shrugged.

"Now, when you cut a particularly thick or hard piece of leather, there's a
certain amount of dust that arises. She's positively convinced that we're
all going to develop pneumonia from working around it and that most of the
tanning process is dangerous to herself and her child. She shows a genuine
talent for the Craft, but is completely inconsolable on the issue. Have you
heard anything about this or do you think someone could talk with her and
calm her down?"

"Really?" Vandor arched an eyebrow and rubbed his chin. "Well now, I
don't think she'd want to inhale fumes from anything. Is it an inordinate
amount of dust? I think if it's not a particularly high amount it
shouldn't be a problem."

Meridia shook her head.
"No more really than you get breaking a cracker or bit of bread. I think
the baby has taken her common sense. I've been told these things happen.
But do you think if I sent her your way, you might have a talk with her? It
may serve to quell the hysteria."

"Ah, then she has nothing to worry about." Vandor shook his head. "This is
her first baby, correct? A lot of first time mothers get over protective.
If she has any concerns, of course you can send her to me. If that
doesn't satisfy her, I'll be glad to have one of the midwives talk to her."

"Thank you. I'll be sure to let her know. I think that would help a lot."
She clutched the bag of tea tightly in her hand as she rose from the chair.
"Thanks again, Vandor. Hopefully I won't need to bother you again soon."

"It's no bother. Feel free to come any time you have a question or
concern." Vandor grinned at the moment, white and black in sharp contrast.

Meridia smiled and made her way out of the office. Perhaps Vandor was not
so unnerving after all...
