Choosing a Member Name
Enter the name you'd like to be known by in the club. This will be your username when you log in, and you'll need to use this name to register for the forums. If someone in the club is already using that name, you may be asked to choose a different one. You could try adding a last initial (e.g. Jane S.) - make up one if you would rather people didn't know the real one! - or a number (e.g. Susan 2)
Choosing a Password
When you join the club, a random password will be emailed to the address that you supplied. You can then use this password to log in to the Triad Weyrs website with the privileges of a member. You may then want to change your password to something easier to remember.
Choose a password that's hard for anyone else apart from yourself to guess - don't choose a real word or your name, or any information that is displayed on the website, such as your birthday. It helps to include some numbers and symbols as well. Passwords are case-sensitive (so make sure you don't have your CAPS LOCK key on without knowing it) and must be 6 characters long or longer.
Choosing an Email Address
Your email address should be the one you'd like club members to use to contact you with. It doesn't necessarily have to be the same email address you use to sign up to the list, though if you intend to use a different email address it's helpful to let the club owner know.
Your email address will be hidden on the website from non-members, so it should not be picked up by 'email spiders' which collect email addresses for spammers to use; instead, non-members will be able to contact you using a web form. By selecting 'no' for the 'show email' option, you can choose to hide your email address from everyone except Administrators as well.
How can I change my password?
To change your password, log in and click on the "My Profile" link to the right of the website logo, then click on the "Change Password" link in the box on the left. You'll need to re-enter your old password, choose a new password and re-enter this new password to confirm it. The new password will then be emailed to the address in your profile.
How can I set myself as being away from the club?
All you need to do is post a note in our forums the date you will be away from and if possible, the date when you expect to return and the reason for leaving. Our LOA tracker will then list you as away on the website.
Administrators To set a member as being on LOA, you will need to go to their Member Profile (reached by clicking on the "Members" tab and then choosing the member's name from the list). There should be a red administration tab at the top right of the screen labelled "LOA". Click on that and you will reach a page when LOAs can be added and edited.
If you don't know the date a member will return, leave that field blank.
LOAs can be deleted if you make a mistake, but should mostly be left in the database to maintain a record. This will be used to make sure people aren't warned for not meeting rank requirements when they were away!
I've forgotten my password!
If you forget your password, you will have to request another using the New Password page. Since passwords are encrypted in the database, Admins cannot retrieve your old one for you
What is a Member Profile?
Every member of Triad Weyrs has a page to themselves, called their Member Profile, which lists their name and their personas. Some members may want to tell the club a bit more about themselves - they may add a username for a chat program, a link to their website or livejournal, or a favourite quote.
New members need to fill in a name, birth date and valid email address to join. The other fields are optional and can be filled in whenever you choose. You don't need to wait until you can come up with a suitable quote or future goal in order to join the club!
Favourite Quote
If you like, you can enter a favourite quote (or a few quotes) using the member profile form. The quote will then be displayed in your member profile.
Future Goals
If you like, you can enter your future goals in life using the member profile form. They will then be displayed in your member profile.
Hobbies
If you like, you can enter a list of your hobbies using the member profile form. The hobbies will then be displayed in your member profile.
LiveJournal
If you have a LiveJournal and would like to place a link to it in your member profile, enter your LiveJournal username using the member profile form. (You don't need to enter an entire link to your profile here - just the username).
Location
Filling in your real location is optional. This can be vague ('Europe') or more detailed ('London, UK') or even a joke(!) but please don't enter your full home address here.
Other Clubs
If you like, you can list any other online writing clubs that you're a part of in your Member Profile by filling them in in the "Other Clubs" section of the form. You can also link to them using HTML tags; an example is given below. Replace "CLUB URL" and "MY CLUB" with the URL of the club's website and its name respectively.
Website
If you have a website and would like to share it with the other club members, you can enter its name and URL using the Member Profile Form. It will then be linked from your profile.
All websites linked from this site must be legal and suitable for all club members (who may be as young as 15).
What does my Member Status mean?
There are various different status levels that members of Triad Weyrs can hold.
Active writers in the club will have the status Member and are able to edit their own profiles and submit changes to persona sheets. Some members have Administrator status, which means they can make changes to our database such as updating persona sheets.
The other possibilities are Lurker (a member who is subscribed to our mailing list, but doesn't (yet!) take part in writing stories) and Inactive (a member who has left the club).
New members can choose between Member or Lurker for their status.
Why must I enter my Birth Date?
The Triad Weyrs Council will need to know your real birth date because due to the nature of the club, we do not allow members under the age of 15. To hide your age from everyone else in the club, select 'no' for the 'show age' option.
