20

Rank: Wingrider, Skybroom Wing
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Physical Description of Persona:
Haysh has finally come to the end of a late growth spurt that saw him shoot up several inches in the space of a turn or so. His weight is finally starting to catch back up with his height again thanks to a filling diet of good Weyr food and muscles honed by hard labor, but for now he’s still a little on the lanky side: long legs, long torso, long neck, long face. No one at the Weyrhold has seen the goofy-looking little kid that Haysh once was, only the recent makings of a decent-looking young man, but there are still hints of it in the way his ears stick out and the way his lips quirk frequently, as if he’s just barely holding back from grinning and revealing secret amusement at something-or-other. His short coppery-orange hair, so frequently associated with goofballs and misfits for some reason, does nothing to dispel the impression of a young man who can’t possibly be entirely serious about anything (whether that’s true or not). His eyes are the blue-grey of an overcast sky, understated and perhaps a slight mismatch to the rest of him, animated as it is -- but then again, a mismatch seems entirely fitting somehow.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Haysh, though born to the raw earth of the mines, is somehow more a child of the wind: weaving his way through life with aplomb, light and unserious, refreshing in his earnestness, agile enough to land on his feet again and again no matter what the world throws at him. He’s ever-present, social enough to gravitate towards where the people are, even if it’s just to meander nimbly in and out of the edges of the crowd to soak in the ambiance -- but, more often, he likes to make his presence known, telling jokes and playing pranks, the twirling gust that sets autumn leaves to dancing.
He’s ambitious in a breezy, optimistic way, always confident there’s something better out there for him, and willing to work for it… if only he knew exactly what “it” was. Sometimes, rarely, opportunities drift by him on the wind, and he races to catch them, riding them to new heights like a kite.
He doesn’t enjoy being angry at all, but when pushed enough he’ll push back just as hard, blunt as the bite of the southern mountain squall. If there’s a gale in him, no one has seen it yet, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not there.
History of Persona:
Haysh’s life started out with tragedy of the most mundane sort, the sort that’s just a fact of life in a remote mining hold sometimes: his mother died when he was young, and his father perished in a collapsed mine tunnel several turns later. He and his two sisters were bundled off to Garnet Valley Hold, where his sisters were just old enough to find drudge work, and Haysh himself was fostered for the last couple of turns it took to finish up his education, and then he, too, settled in to work at the Hold. He was a natural fit for manual labor, eventually falling into a general labor role with the stonemasons.
He always hoped for more, though, even though he never had a clear idea of exactly /what/. When the chance to join a crew headed to help the construction efforts at Barrier Lake Weyrhold came up, he jumped at the chance to have a little adventure and see new people and places. He honestly enjoyed the work, and seeing the fruits of their labor as the new Weyrhold took shape, and made friends easily among the crew.
When a couple of his fellow workers were actually Searched, and his friend Rabain suggested that some of them should give it a shot, themselves, now that the work was winding down, Haysh was one of the first to jump on board. If the Weyrwoman would allow it, why not? He had nothing special to go home to, and a future that was wide open (in his head, at least, if not in reality). He’s reminded himself that his chances are slim, since no dragon has ever seen any potential in him, but even though he /says/ he’s just shooting his one shot before moving on to the next job, it hasn’t entirely sunken in -- he doesn’t want to admit that he has his heart set on something that’s probably not going to happen.

Dragon's Name: Selkirth
Dragon's Age: 1
Dragon's Hatching Date: m9 d8
Dragon's Colour: Green
Next Mating Flight: m3 d7 of turn 13
Description of Dragon:
Selkirth is a petite green, one of the smallest dragons of her color, with delicate features and a slightly short, rounded muzzle. Her hide is a soft, pastel mint green without any real markings or variation of color.
She's a happy dragon, energetic and playful, difficult to upset and easy to please. Contrary to what this disposition may lead others to believe, however, she's quite clever and more than capable of standing up for herself and can even be a little manipulative to get what she wants. As she grows, she'll become quite the flirt, and won't hesitate to lead interested males on a little in order to make sure she always has someone to cuddle with whenever she wants to.
